Question Hair?

I was just diagnosed in Nov 2003, but have had symptoms since I was a youngin: dark velvety skin under my arms, skin tags, belly fat, mood swings, deppression, difficulty losing weight even if I try harder than anyone I know in the world...they lose two lbs/wk, I lose 0.2 lbs/wk. I was on bcps on and off since I was 14 1994, but they make me even more mood swingy than I normally am, so I quit for good after trying 7 diff brands.
Do you think the pills have kept me from going bald and growing facial hair? The hair on my head falls out a lot, but my fam has REALLY thick hair, so I don't have any bald patches...yet. Am I going to have to shave my face? Is my head going to look like my dad's? Is there anything to help stop any of that from happening?

Hanni

It is my understanding that BCP's mask the symptoms of PCOS, so I would say it is possible. Maybe you could find out more on the BCP board.

I have never been extremely hairy- while on BCP's or not. I mean I wax my upper lip and have some peach-fuzz like sideburns, but I have never had to shave or consider it. Maybe you and I are some of the lucky ones (not that we don't have other symptoms) who will just never have that particular symptom.

Hi there,

I don't know much about what your asking but have a suggestion. Go to the symptoms/hair forum and ask those ladies. They should have answers for you. Not everyone checks all forums so I think your odds for info would be higher.

Good luck and take care.

Wow girl, if you are already twenty five and you don't have to shave yet I'd say you're a pretty lucky ducky! I think the symptoms of each cyster are simalar but the actual cases and extremities vary for everyone. I HAD to start shaving when I was fifteen, I was young and I really didn't have any light shed on my condition, and I am sure my shaving instigated my hair growth on alot of ways. But, go and talk to your endocrinologist if you have one (if not, get referred) and they can take some tests and find out roughly where your horomone levels are at and they can give you an idea whereabouts your progression level is. I hope this helps, good luck and God bless.
