Question Hair change anyone?

This doesn't really have to do with hair growth or loss, but hair change.

I'll explain.

I just watched the episode of Mystery Diagnosis about PCOS and the lady on it said that her hair changed from straight to a frizzy mess when she hit puberty.

I never knew that THAT was a symptom of PCOS too? I used to have really straight hair and then at about 12 years old it turned frizzy and now I have really curly hair.

Has anyone else had this change??? Does anyone know why??

Hi Meli,

My hair has changed texture during my worst bouts of hair loss/shedding; it nearly turned into a fuzzy brillopad! At it's worst, the hair had a mind of it's own; no style would hold up, the wind was my worst enemy, and detangling was an absolute nightmare, not to mention the huge chunks of hair that would come out for the weekly wash! I have gone through this horrible hair stage at least 2X in the last five years.

When my hormones seem to have balanced themselves, my hair is soft and manageable even with very little heat and product usage. Right now, the hair is behaving; I honestly don't know what I may be doing right or wrong to contribute to this directly....

I am currently on YAZ (1st time) and I take other supps such as Evening Primrose with Flax Oil, Vitamin B12 complex, Metformin, Cinnamon and Vitamin D. I havent continued using Rogaine for at least a year and I havent seen any major problems even though they say you shouldnt stop using it...(I'm holding on to a bottle for back up!)

In addition I have been "happy, content and relaxed"** and able to lose about 5lbs. Perhaps the combination of all of these things helps with maintaining a healthier head of hair.

(**I don't know how much longer this will last, lol!)

Ah, just one more thing...another cyster mentioned that hair changes could be associated with a thyroid problem, so have that checked...my doc insisted that mine was 'normal'.

i've always had wavy hair, the kind I could blow-dry straight and also style curly. But a few months ago my hair turned from wavy to straight---seriously. I don't know what's going on, and everyone thatI try to explain it to kind of makes me feel like I'm insane...

Hi Harry123,

I noticed your post that you quoted me, I'm trying to understand your links to the online pills and the traffic accidents??

Do you have the same issues/cures/good hair moments?

THX!

I would also like to hear about other people who have had this problem.

My hair has always been curly (but fairly easily blown and straightened) but over the past 3 years it has fallen out a lot and changed texture to more of a wispy, weaker hair that breaks easily and is thin, and it is more fluffy and doesn't lay heavy you know what I mean? It doesn't curl like it used to at alllll and waves in weird places - not naturally like it used to. Ugh It is possible to ever get this type of thing reversed? Or are you just stuck with it?

Mine totally changed last year from stick-straight and shiny to wavy on the best days (frizzy on the worst) and duller than ever. I started low-carbing, taking loads of B-vitamins, drinking sugar-free Red Bull (which I've heard may also good for TTC!) and eating lots of Jell-o. Seriously! I cut off the worst of the frizz on the ends and now my hair is (while still a little wavy) mostly back to how it used to be. I got the shine back and it doesn't tangle as much. HTH!

Wow interesting regimen hahah!!!! Is it the taurine or something in the Red Bull? And what specifically in the Jell-O as well? Very interesting!

Jello strengthens keratin which is what makes up your hair and nails. It makes them stronger and shinier (I got this tip from my mom who has had beautiful hair and nails all of her life!) And I think it is the B-vitamins in the Red Bull, I don't know if it makes it better, but it sure makes it grow faster! I do know that doctors have suggested that taurine is helpful in treating diabetes so maybe it helps with IR, too???
