I have hair growing absolutely everywhere - thick, black, long and horrible hairs that look like I have been feeding it fertiliser, it grows so quick. I shave everywhere except my face and neck which at first I used to dye with bleach. Then I started used tweezers, threading and waxing on my upper lip. Even had electrolysis - god, that was so painful and expensive. It didn't work at all and I was left with even thicker and more noticeable hairs. I have started having laser treatment on my face and it is a godsend. I have shaved my face once and my upper lip three times since my first treatment a month ago. Before that it was every day.
I still shave and bleach the rest of my body but as soon as I finish on my face, I will move to another body area. I know it never eliminates the hair but reducing it, is good enough for me.
This site is brilliant.. For years I thought I was a hairy freak, always covering up my body - thick tights in the middle of summer.. LOL!! Never had a beach holiday until my late 20's and as for a bikini/wearing sleeveless and halterneck tops/anything that involves displaying flesh Ha Ha!!
I wish a site like this had existed years ago when I was first diagnosed..It would have saved a well of tears.
I have an embarrasing place where hair grows and that is on my butt and it is so horrible. The worst thing I think is that it grows so fast it is amazing.
GIRLFRIEND!
I use nair just cause it's quick. This winter though I'm gonna start waxing. My butt seems to be the only place I'm still pretty embarrassed with when it comes to my hubby.
I have pretty bad facial hair. I have been taking Metformin for about a year now and I still shave everyday! Ive informed my BFF and BF of the shaving rules just in case.... Glad to know Im not alone! :o)
Ugh...it's horrible isn't it! I have to tweeze most every day and wax every few weeks. As for the hair on my lower back/butt....I just tell my hubby "sorry...i'm hairy" lol He doesn't seem to mind.

I shave everyday, like a man, I hate it but you can't tell if I do it everyday and DBF doesn't mind, it's funny In the morning when we are getting ready for work we are both at the mirror shaving our face...LoL
That's how it is with DH and I -- we shave together in the morning and it's something we share that most couples don't.
I'm so happy to find a group of ladies I can talk to about this stuff-- it's so hard. I have always been mortified of my chin hair..I've waxed, bleached, plucked, epilated, shaved... nothing works that great...just consistency... I found with the epilator it would take a while to grow back but I got HUGE ingrown hairs that were not only- really painful but hard to cover up. Right now I'm on a shaving kick and just use really good shaving cream so my skin doesn't get too irritated. I am also TTC so I have been on Metformin 1500mg for 2 years and Spirinolactone. I recently stopped the Spiro when I found out how awful it was for TTC. If you are not TTC- I found a combo of Birth Control Pills, Met, and Spiro actually made a big difference. Shaving once a week instead of once a day. Now that I am off Spiro and BCPs one of my fears was the daily shaving again, so far it hasn't been THAT bad...
..I'll never forget when my DH and I started dating I was so scared to tell him about the extra hormones and hair and such- but we were talking one day about our biggest insecurities- so I came out with it- worst thing ever- HAIR ON MY CHIN! and he's like- seriously?! that's it...hahahaha made me feel so good ..soo silly for thinking so little of myself for so long over some stupid hairs...
..I still get really self concious about it in public- but with him- he knows what's going on- and has always been supportive.. so that's a huge help...also knowing I'm not alone and there are other ladies out there dealing with this helps immensely

Like all of you who have posted, I have tons of hair to deal with and I hate it. My husband is very understanding about it but I am still very self conscious. I shave my chin, neck and side burns everyday. I use VEET for my legs and backside.
I started on metformin and BCP 3 weeks ago and between the two the hair growth seems to have slowed some. It does not seem to be as long each day but is still long enough that I have to shave it. I read about Magic Powder on another thread here and I want to try that. Especially since it is made to remove beard hair, I think it will work on my face. I can't use the VEET on my face because the skin is too sensitive.
As for BFs noticing hair, if they are worth keeping they will not make a big issue of it. Same goes for them knowing about PCOS. I know it is very hard but just lay it on the line. It's no different than if you were diabetic or whatever. You didn't ask for it you just have to live with it. If he really cares it won't be an issue. If it is an issue kick 'em to the curb!
I'll let everyone know how the Magic Powder works if I can find it here.
Currently Taking: Metformin 500mg 3x day Celexa 10mg Amitriptyline 20mg OCP Multi-Vitamin Vitamin D 2000IU Omega 3 Fish Oil 1200mg 2x day

I've had PCOS forever, and I'm portuguese, so I'm used to having more/darker facial hair than everyone else...but the hair was all in normal places! I miscarried in the 1st trimester in December of 2008. Only after the miscarriage - not during pregnancy - did I suddenly get terrible, terrible, terrible acne (I've always had acne, but never this bad!) and all of a sudden: hair on my chin, hair on my cheeks, random dark, black, random hairs that appear on my neck, shoulders, chin and cheeks. More hair on my belly and the hair on my legs can grown an inch in a week now!
For now I'm tweezing the dark random hairs as they appear, and I bleached my chin hairs and above my lip and was very happy with those results. I use an electric razor to trim my bleached hairs down about once a week. My hairs are noticeable, there's no hiding it.
My DH is extremely understanding and never makes me feel disgusting about it. He takes a strange pleasure out of plucking a black hair off my neck, the little weirdo! His main concern is the loss of our pregnancy and the idea that we may never have a child, so chin hair is the least of his worries!!!

I did a series of laser treatments two years ago and it was an absolute Godsend! Plucking chin hairs used to be a morning ritual! If I woke up late I would be nervous all day!! The only hair on my face now is peach fuzz with an occasional single dark hair on upper lip. I just pluck these. It worked so well I had my legs and armpits done as well - I never shave my legs anymore, and only shave the armpits once in awhile. The thing about laser is that the ideal candidate has very light skin and very dark hair. I am very white and my body hair is very dark, the laser targets the pigment. If this is your coloring I would tell you it is the best money you will ever spend!
Wow, I'm so glad that I'm not alone. (Not that I'm glad all of you have to go through this...but at least we aren't alone in it.) I've had laser...hair grew back. I use to pluck...but it took forever. I can't believe I'm saying this but I could probably grow a beard if I didn't shave every day. My sister and I have made a pact...if something happens to one of us, the other will be right there to daily take care of shaving so no one else will notice! I too have had horrible nightmares about being incapacitated in some way and laying in a hospital bed growing huge mounds of hair everywhere!! *gasp* Needless to say, I shave every morning....sometimes again in the evening if we are going somewhere special. My husband is so understanding and has never said a word...but I know it bothers him that I flinch when he reaches to touch my face. *sigh*
I've been thinking of trying an epilady so that I don't have to shave every morning. Does it hurt?

You're not alone -- many of us have full male-type beard growth effectively no different from that of our husbands.

Try to relax. He's reaching to touch your face knowing that you have beard stubble like he has himself. It's you he's reaching to touch, beard stubble and all. He's not flinching from the stubble or the fact that you've got beard growth -- he's showing that he loves you, beard growth included. Of course it bothers him when you flinch, because it seems like a rejection of him. Your beard growth is part of the person you are, the person he loves. Let him touch it and share it. I know my dh loves to nuzzle my bristles in the morning before I shave. And if he wants to do that, I'm happy to let him.

If you've got a heavy enough beard to require shaving at least once in the day, then it's probably too tough for an Epilady to remove. They're not designed for coarse, male-type beard growth.
I shave my chin daily, and I use my husbands razor as it works way better than a lady one!! Im so embaressed and at night I check it to make sure he cant see it, Its sooo embaressing. I have to use a razor because i cant let it grow for a waxing, OMG!!! I would take hair somewhere else, where no one could see, but the chin, it really kills me. But with a fresh sahve on the bone of the chin and a few rogue ones on my neck and some makeup-no one can see, but I still feel horrible about myself

Of course if you've got male-type beard growth your husband's razor will work better than one designed for the sort of hair most women have. But don't let the beard growth spoil your relationship with your husband -- many of us have husbands who know very well that we have the same sort of beard growth as they have -- and they love it as part of what makes us who we are. Keep it from the rest of the world, by all means -- but don't let it be a barrier between you and your DH.
