Question Hair color question

I have colored my hair for several years due to all the gray hair I have. I am only 34 but premature gray hair runs on my Mom's side of the family. Dh was touching my hair up last night and mentioned that he thought I should quit coloring my hair and let it grow out. I have colored it for so long I would probably gasp at the sight of so many grays! Anyway, he said that it looked like my hair was thinner this time as opposed to last time he did it. Now I have noticed, since I got sick in January due to kidney trouble, that it seemed like my hair had thinned more. I don't know if the kidney trouble had anything to do with it or not. It took from January to April to get the problem taken care of and I feel so much better now. So I was just wondering if coloring your hair can cause more hair loss to an already horrible symptom of PCOS? I would rather be all gray than have no hair. Anyone know?

i went to cosmetology school and the only thing i can think of close to "dying your hair too much makes it fall out" is that when you expose your hair to too many chemicals it can break of.......causing it to seem thinner but i dont think its just falling out

You could chose a less harsh haircolor--the chemicals may be causing some of it. My mother (who also had the premature grey in her family) could never use any color other then Clairol's Loving Care. She had a terrible reaction to the peroxide and ammonia in everything else.

I personally use Nice 'n Easy (I switched from L'Oreal about a year ago) and I love it. The highlights really help me be able to color it myself, since missed spots aren't as noticeable.

Default hair color question

I also don't think coloring your hair will make it fall out from the root but it can definetly damage it and cause it to break and therefore feel and look much thinner... I am 33 and have very dark brown hair so I also feel I must color my hair to hide my grays (and I also have more than a few..) I also used to do it myself (Loreal Preference and never had a problem) until one time I either did not wait long enough in between colorings or I left it on too long (probably both) and my hair broke off like you wouldn't believe... I really thought I was going to be bald... the breakage did eventually stop (although what I have now is actually worse...actual loss! but it's not from the color..) anyhow.. after that scare I decided to have it professionally colored and I was soo much happier with the results.. my hair felt better, looked better (shinier) the color was more natural and it seems to be lasting twice as long too...

when you lose hair (in the shower, the bathroom floor, your clothes...) check to see if there is a white bulb on the end,if there is that is the root and it can be from pcos or something else if the hairs you find are all different lengths without bulbs than it is likely breakage from the color...
