Oh I totally understand. Before I started wearing a wig, I dreaded going to get my hair cut!!! I had so many hairdressers comment on my thin hair and it made me die a little inside each time

Oh ladies, I could've started this thread myself!! When I graduated high school, which wasn't but about 6 years ago, I had thick long hair. It was beautiful. And since I decided to cut it after I left for college, I have been trying to get that long beautiful hair back but it's not quite working out. I look at how thin my hair has become and it makes me want to give up on it and chop my hair short.
The last time I went to a hair dresser, the guy butchered my hair, making it look NOTHING like the picture I gave him. Then he told me that there was nothing that he could do to my hair that would look good on me. I wanted to shrivel up and die. I ended up paying him, walking out and going to another hair salon to get my hair cut AGAIN to look atleast decent. So needless to say I dreaded the idea of going back to a hairdresser.
But I recently faced my fear again and went to a hair dresser dreading it the whole way because I wanted to get my hair cut into the style I'd like to wear at my upcoming wedding in January. I looked through pictures and picked out pictures of the books of the style I would like. The lady took my hair out of my ponytail and explained that she couldn't give me the style I wanted because the models in the pictures had a LOT more hair than me and it just wouldn't look good on me. I was hearbroken.
I've dreamed about wearing that hairstyle and here she was not only explaining that my hair wouldn't look good with it, but she also threw in the tidbit that if I were to attempt to get extensions that I would end up with baldspots. So I left the beauty shop, went home and cried. Frustrated for fear that now that I've found the happiness to plan my dream wedding, I'm left to wonder if I'll be a beautiful bride.
So, I'm back to square one, and with a little over 3 months to go, I'm still searching for a hair dresser that can help me find my dream hairstyle.

bkaur26, it is terrible. I used to have a full head of hair up until I was about 15, then it all went downhill and I have very thin hair. It has stopped somewhat during the last two years as I got my diet and exercise under control, but I thought it may come back slowly, it hasn't, my hair is still as thin as it was from the age of 15. I have just come to terms with it now. But it doesn't make any different to go to the hair dressers and again be expossed to these comments. I hope you find someone that you can trust to cut your hair. I had my mum doing it for years for that reason, but she doesn't want to do it anymore (we had a little disagreement on lengths...). i wish she'd agree to do it again!
smshelton24, hairdressers can be very cheeky. I'd recommend that you demand the hair style you want of them, after all it is you paying out for it! You can try it and then evaluate the look for yourself. I found that some hairdressers were reluctant to do some hairstyles on me because of the thinness of my hair. But a friend took me to the Tony & Guy academy as a model and they were fantastic about doing daring, modern styles on me and my hair looked good, also no unprofessional comments about the thinness. I wish I could go back to them, but too far now.
