Cool Hair Extensions

To All the Hair Stylists Out There (or women with experience):

I've been toying around with the idea of having hair extensions put in to increase the volume at the crown of my hair. I've seen tons of celebs doing this on TV, but if you ask at a local salon they just look at you kind of funny or tell you it's bad for your hair and will make the hair loss worse.

What is the professional opinion?

I'm tire of getting a haircut and not being able to actually get a great style because I'm thin on top!!!

HELP!!!

Thanks in advance,
Adrienne

I love, love, love hair extensions!!! My real hair is actually very long and thick, and while I lose a lot, I still have a lot to deal with. Plus it's straight, and I always wanted curly hair.

Presto! Extensions! LOVE THEM!

If you're looking just for fullness, you might want to consider locks...there was a thread here earlier where I posted pictures of what they look like.

I may have to look into this if my hair loss continues, but it's good to know there may be some options. How do extensions work exactly, Kat?

Kat,

Thanks!!! That's just what I wanted to hear.

I've seen the Locs one time before on Oprah, I think. It might have been The View, but anyway. I went online and found the suppliers website, but don't know where to find a salon that does Locs. I live in a small town in GA where evidently women don't lose their hair. LOL. Jacksonville, FL is the closest large town. Maybe I can try again and find someone that does it there.

Thanks again,
Adrienne

It all depends on the stylist, the type of hair you have, and the look you're going for.

For me, I'm not adding any fullness to my natural hair - in fact, I'm going for a completlely different texture, so 80% of my hair is braided in small braids, and the extensions are literally sewn on to the braids. The hair that's left out, I just curl to match the extensions. (It's an ALL day affair, but it lasts for about 8 weeks - 10 if your hair grows slowly.)

Some stylists glue extensions in... (Not for me.)

Nascar - good luck finding someone to loc you up! If you ever come to SoCal, there are PLENTY of options!

Kat,

That would be funny. Country come to town! Just joking, I did go to a town near San Diego, but that was a loooong time ago. Yeah, I guess there are some benefits to living in a big city!!!

I've contacted a few salons by email over here on the east coast trying to get hooked up with their rep. Maybe I'll get a lead.

Thanks again,
Adrienne

Kat,

I got an e-mail from a salon out in Cali. today. She said she forwarded my e-mail to the Euro Locs Rep.

She told me that if I couldn't find someone to do it for less than $1500.00 that maybe I could fly out there and get it done!!!

IS IT REALLY THAT EXPENSIVE!!! I hate to sound cheap, but that's a lot of money. How much is it to just have regular extensions done?

hey girls
im a qualified hairdresser but dont have too much experience in hair extensions. But i do know that there is alot of bad hairstylists out there. You really need to do your research, make sure you get it done by someone with plenty of experience. Also you need to take out the extensions when your supposed to otherwise you can experience hair loss. also if the person doing it does a bad job, its common for women to experience hair loss then too. I think it has something to do with if they do them too tight or something. Also you need to be prepared to pay alot of money, because it takes a long time to do and also you want to be sure you're getting a good job. Make sure the person doing it does hair extensions alot.
Thats just my two cents

Maybe they're that much in Beverly Hills...That sounds REALLY high.

As with all procedures, the prices vary based on where you live, the stylist doing them, and the quality of hair you buy.

When I was in Atlanta, I had my extensions done for under $200...it's more here in Cali. I don't know how much locs are but $1500 sounds crazy.

That makes me feel a little better, knowing I could at least get something done for less than $200.

Thanks,
Adrienne

I've thought about extensions too. I think it would be fun!
In reality though, I think I'll just let it all fall out, and go get some Cher-wigs. Then I can change my hair color to match my outfit!

Hugs
Julie
