Unhappy This hair is getting out of control!!!!!

I am seriously getting so upset about the hair growth under my chin, on my neck and along my jaw line. It's TERRIBLE and i am so afraid to shave it, because the hair grows in ALL different directions. It's awful. I pluck ALL the time and i even do a depilatory, but it doesn't get the big thick black hairs. And, I get this awful sandpaper feel on the sides of my face a couple days after the depilatory. What am I supposed to do?? I am so embarrassed by this. I have ingrown hairs and pimple-like red bumps all underneath my chin. My little cousin actually asked me why i had zits on my neck and not on my face.

Someone please help me...

Thumbs up shave!

I was in the same position as you about 6 months ago, but then I took the plunge and started to shave my face. Now I don't have the problem with the spots and ingrowing hairs to the same extent.

I know it's a scarey prospect, and you will probablu find others who say you should carry on plucking, but I think that for the sake of your skin you should consider shaving...

There are lots of great tips of products you can use etc on this board, so have a read through and come to your own decision.

Hope this helps you out abit,
palsen.

I can so relate. I started noticing the hair on my chin when I was 16 and it has just gotten worse. I used to pluck, but when it got to the point that I was plucking all the time, I started shaving which was about 7 years ago. I shave every morning and sometimes I have to in the evening if I am going out and it has gotten bad during the day. I started using Vaniqa in May and haven't seen any change yet, but I hear it can take a long time. I use it twice a day and in the morning after shaving, it burns when I put it on. I am hoping that that means it is working. I also started Metformin in June and I have seen some change in the color of the hair on my arms; in some spots the hair is white, but very few spots. I know it takes time there too. I've tried creams, but it doesn't do anything but leave me with a rash on my chin.

Try talking with your doctor. Maybe you could give Vaniqa a try.

Hang in there

Kim

Thumbs up This hair is getting out of control

i agree with the other cysters ..... shave, shave, shave and stop making yourself crazy. due to the extensive facial hair i have, i at times can be a plucking maniac. it is nothing for me to sit for an hour and pluck hair from my face. the discouraging thing is that in a day or so more hair appears and i have to start all over again.

unless you have had to deal with this as a woman you cannot imagine how devastating this side effect of pcos can be. i shave my upper lip, lower lip, side burns, neck, chin, and sides of my face every day now. i also shave my fore arms every day as well. do i like to do this? no..... but i get tired of spending so much time on the simple maintainance plucking requires.

i have tried vaniqa twice for four months and saw no improvement. this was such a disappointment because i had such high hopes for this product, plus it is not cheap.

i'm so sorry you have to deal with this as well but it really hepls to know that there are other women out there who understand.....

question: do any of you notice that your facial hair gets much worse right before your period or is it just me? since my periods are irregular, i can use the change in my facial hair to help me predict when my period is coming. i guess that is my silver lining in all of this!

take care and good luck!

I can relate to all of this, ladies... My facial hair is sooo out of control. I have found a wonderful combination of products that make me smooth again (for a few days, anyway) but more important than my hair removal, is how I treat my face afterwards. I've found to get rid of those awful ingrown hair / zit bumps you get, I have to exfoliate my skin at least once a day. I use a small loofah and my regular facial clenser. I use small circular motions over my "shaved" area for about two minutes. In addition to that, I wash my face regularly with gunk that has exfoliating scrubs right in the soap. I use that at least twice a day - this has REALLY helped my hair grow in smoother and wiothout the awful rashy bumps. I hope this helps!!

PS I use facial nair once a week, and pluck every second day to keep my chin hair free. Don't ask about my eyebrows...they're a whole other ball of wax...

hugs,
alana

I taste like Peanut Butter.

I am one of the most blendable flavours; I go with sweet, I go with sour, I go with bland, I go with anything. I am practical and good company, but have something of a tendency to hang around when I'm not wanted, unaware that my presence is not welcome.

Red face Dear Daisygirl,

I know how you feel! I get ingrown hairs as well. I think shaving is a good idea! I usually try to pluck, but I shave the hair on my upper lip when I am in a hurry. Plucking my chin and upper lip could easily take two hours! I used to get electrolysis, and that helped ease up the hair growth on my chin. However, I had to stop because it was so expensive! Try shaving, but yes, make sure you pamper your skin before and afterwards with a lotion or cream... you do not want to get razor burn. Good luck to you, and I am sorry you also have to encounter the hair problem! I guess a lot of Cysters do, and it is just one of the worst symptoms of the syndrome because it is painful both emotionally and physically.

Take Care,
Jennifer

Default Tip for using Vaniqa

I saw that some of the cysters haven't had much luck with Vaniqa, but I also noticed that you are shaving. In order for Vaniqa to work you MUST remove the hair. This means plucking or waxing. Shaving or depilatories don't remove the hair. I have been using Vaniqa for over a year now and I thank God for it. The hairs on my chin were getting pretty bad. Now I pluck maybe twice a week. Please try it again, but just remember to remove the hair. And another thing...it does take some time to work. It was about eight weeks before I started noticing a difference.
Much love,
Leed.

We are all sisters in the same situation!!!

I too say shave - do not pluck! Part of the reason you have hair growth in many directions is due to the plucking and ingrown hairs. I plucked to my peril and found just shaving is much better. Yes, it sucks that it must be done daily or twice a day instead of some delay with the plucking but, in the long run, it will be better for your skin and hairs!

Read this!!

http://www.hormonehelpny.com/column/hormoneshair9.htm

"Home removal: All sorts of methods are in use, but the most common one, tweezing, is the worst -- because it pulls the hair out by the root, which injures the skin. Done for a long time it can give a bumpy look to the skin over the jaw. Snipping with a scissors is better than plucking though it does not last as long. Bleaches and depilatories are OK too; but with depilatories, be sure not to leave them on longer than the instructions say otherwise there can be considerable irritation. A razor is an effective way to remove hair but many women understandably do not like to use one. Despite widespread belief to the contrary, removing hair by a razor or other means does not make it grow in faster or darker."

I have found the same...and he is a specialist in this!!
