I have lived with hair since I was about 20. I am now 35. I have had no treatment, no meds and went undiagnosed.
My hair started as one long dark hair on my neck, I plucked it and gradually more came and I plucked. I then bleached as I started to develop a fuzzy kinda of beard and trimmed. That didn't work well enough, so I began shaving at age 26. Weird thing is I never had a moustache until about 2 years ago, just a full nasty beard.
I am now a mess. I have curly dark hair on my head so my hair on the face kinky and i suffer ingrown hairs which leaves my neck and chin red with sores. IT is disgusting, I hAve never seen another woman look like i do. I never go out without makeup and it barely covers the red mess i am now.
I hear many women on here talk about their hair, but honestly it sounds mild compared to mine.
Over time it just gets worse, anyone else have that problem? Or did you all get diagnosed early enough to have some hair control.
I have long curly dark hair on my legs, it is think like I man I am not exaggerating.
The worse along with the face is the breast AND CHESt area, does anyone else have that problem? I mean long dark hairs on my chest, not only around the breast and nipple. I have literally about 200 hairs, long and dark. I have more hair than most men. I am like an ape and so ashamed to let anyone see this mess.
I had a boyfriend and hid it from him until the last 2 years it got worse and I let him in on my shaving secrets. I wax my chest and breasts, yeah gross.
We broke up, not cause of that and I am terrified to ever date again.
Anyway, is anyone else this hairy? I think even on the PCOS board I am still the harriest beast ever. No joke. It is scary.
Do meds help? or did i let this go too far? Is anyone else this freakin hairy?
Thanks for letting me vent, I am new first post.
HUGS. I think the hair part is one of the most difficult aspects of this to deal with emotionally.
Have you been "officially" diagnosed? Are you on any meds?
A lot of women on here have used laser treatments with varying degrees of success. Spironolactone is helping me with the hair issues. As far as maintenance, a very high quality razor makes a HUGE difference in the amount of hair removal and skin irritation. For the redness and irritation you have now, you might want to look into a product like Neutrogena Men Skin Clearing Shave Cream or something similar.
And remember...in some parts of the world, hairy women are considered tres sexy. And never forget that you're beautiful on the INSIDE...where it counts!

maybe i need to find a true hermaphodite site? thanks anyway
Beyondthenorm,
Believe me, you're not the only one with this proble. THere's another thread on this same topic and the majority of the girls are probably replying on that one. Don't take it personally. Believe me girl, most of the girls here are in the same boat.
I have hairs in all the places you do. I think that I'm more hairy than my boyfriend!

Beyondthenorm - you're definitely not the only one going through this. I thought I was until I found this forum! But trawl through some of the posts in this section and you'll see there are lots of us.
Keep your chin up girl - every one of us is with you!
I will admit - my hair problems are not as bad as yours. And while on one level this means I don't fully understand what you're going through, I do have more than an inkling of understanding. I'm 20 now, and I've had excess hair since I was about 16. Over this time it has gotten worse - but now it's getting better, because I've been diagnosed and am treating it.
You really do need to treat these problems. They may not fix you up entirely, but I think pretty much everyone here would agree they will make some difference. There are so many options in terms of prescription drugs, you should talk to a doctor about it. THEY HAVE HEARD AND SEEN IT ALL.
In the meantime I'm going to suggest a few little things...
- when plucking, make sure your skin is warm. This way your pores will be open and the hairs will come out much easier, and be less likely to cause ingrown hairs, redness or scarring. I always do this and have only got one or two ingrown hairs at the moment.
- try using an acne treatment that has salicylic acid. I find this actually works to help heal the little red bumps you might get from plucking. Also, plucking/shaving over pimples is hell, so if your skin is better your hair might be too.
- losing weight REALLY does help hair growth.
- so does the BCP - however this is a person choice and I wouldn't recommend this for everyone.
