Default hair improvement on met???

hey girls
it took me about a year to find a good doctor to be diagnosed... so after i cried and was depressed for nearly 8 months my doctor offered me to start taking met (i'm also against bcp). I'm starting today with 500 and we are going to go up to 1500. My only concern now is that he promised if will help me with my excessive hair growth/lose. He said that withing 2 months i should notice changes, but after i read a bunch of post on this website it seems like met only regulated periods and doesn't help much with hair problems. is there anyone who had an improvement with met?
i'm also pretty skinny and i don't want to lose any weight!!! ((((((
i think that this is the worse thing that can ever happen to a woman! everything we hate in 1 desease! (weight, acne, beard, hair lose of beautiful hair)

with every day that goes by i go balder and balder. I have only been on Met for about a month and two weeks so I can't comment on whether or not it will help my hair loss (I pray every night that it does - I used to have hair that other women were envious of....it was the only thing I really liked about myself - physically speaking anyway - and now I cry in the shower and I haven't worn my hair down in over a year). As for the excess hair, I found that spiro helped me the most for that. I am now taking both 200 mg of spiro daily along with 1500mg of met. Maybe adding the spiro into the mix will help your excess hair if the Met doesn't seem to do it on its own. Good luck

I don't have hair LOSS...but I have excess hair and I think it has helped me with that. I have been on it for about 5-6 months. I find that my arm hair is less....I shave them, but I don't have to shave them as often!

ooo my doctor didn't want to give me Spiro, he said if i'll get pregnant taking it, this might cause some problems for the baby. I'm afraid i'll have to take met for the rest of my life.

I used to have really THICK hair when i was younger, but now it is pretty thin...I have excess hair on my stomach (yuck) my lower back, my arms, AND my face. A few yrs ago I went had had over 15 lazer treatments on my face to get rid of the hair. Sure it helped but it also brought to live dormant hair. so SOME parts of my face a better, but some r worse. being on met, i think it has slowed down the hair growth on my face but has not stopped it. I still have to shave every now and then. I just hate doing that. I haev it in my head that MEN should shave their face, but WOMEN should not. I need to shave now, but I am TOO stubborn. HAHA.

I've been taking met for 2 weeks (just transitioned from 500 mg to 1000/day on Sunday) and I have already noticed a difference in the hair growth area. I have been going nuts with the excess facial hair and it has slowed way down!

I don't have the hair loss issue yet, so I can't help with that aspect yet.

I hope you notice some positive changes soon!

I have issues with hair EVERYWHERE a woman is not supposed to have it. You name it, I have it there. I notice it alot on my face - upper lip, chin, "beard" area, neck, etc. I've been on the Metformin for about two weeks, and I will say the hair is growing finer now on my face. I haven't shaved in a LONG while on my legs and other areas because the effort seems never ending, but I do keep my face up since it's exposed 24/7. I used a depilatory cream on my face yesterday, and so far I haven't had any hair growth yet, and normally I feel stubble after the first day! I'll try and come back in a few days to note progress on this, to give you more of an idea as well on Met slowing down the hair growth.

i have not experienced loss of hair...but i hear that metformin does help it..BUT i do get the neck hair, random thick hairs right under my chin...
i've been in metformin for two weeks and the hair is growing in much slower...
it used to be every morning i have a freak one that's long (gross..and embarrassing i know) but i haven't had one in a week.
also, i have the normal hair on the lip...not much, but enough to bug me...but i'm italian...lol, it's normal lol...
but keep your head up...metformin does act differently with different people, and if it's not helping you with what you need, talk to the doctor...

Hi ladies! Okay, to give an update, it's been about five days since I applied hair removal cream on my upper lip and chin/neck, and I will say that the Metformin stopped my hair from growing as fast as it used to, which is great But the coarseness of my hair hasn't changed as much as I thought it did, if it did at all. I'm going to pluck off the hair this morning. With the Met making my facial hair grow slower than normal, maybe instead of getting a few weeks off, I'll get a few MONTHS off! Here's for hoping (LOL)

Met wont make any extra hair you say have on your chin or wherever. It just might help to stop new chin hairs forming.
once a hair has gone from Vellus to Terminal it usually stays that way. The opposite happens when you lose scalp hair. - hair goes from Terminal to vellus - that is how both men and women get thinning hair and baldness.

met just reduces free testosterone by reducing insulin resistance so might make less hair fall out and stop new extdra hairs growing where you don't want them to but WONT FIX WHAT IS ALREADY DONE.

Depressing I know - but I hate to see doctors giving people false hope.
