Default Hair insight...from my hairdresser...

Hiya girls,

I only started relating my hairloss to PCOS when I found this site, however it's not serious and I don't worry about it.
However I was having a conversation with my hairdresser the other day when I went to get it blow dried for my weekend away. She mentioned that it was falling out a lot, and I explained about my PCOS. What really surprised me is that she told me I was growing new hair underneath, like babies hair. This surprised me and I wondered if anyone else was experiencing regrowth similar to this.
Thanks a lot.

I've noticed some babyfuzz growing in places where I've lost hair too. Especially at the temples.

I have a lot of baby hair and I have a hard time remembering that, because it just seems like I'm losing losing losing all the time. It's encouraging to see new growth though!!

I have little hairs about and inch or two long that stick up mostly on the top of my head. I have never been told that it's regrowth, but I assume it is, since my hair is down to my butt. I wish I could get more growing though.

These are not baby hairs they are more than likely minustarised hairs I have hundreds of htem they are less pigmentated and do not grow to a satisfactory length this is common in androge genetic alopecia from PCOS ...

Quote:
The miniaturisation and eventual loss of the hair and hair follicle in pre-determined scalp areas, for both men and women, characterises Androgenic Alopecia or Common Baldness. First classified by Hamilton in the 1940s on work with Eunuchs, it is known that Androgens (hormones that promote male characteristics) are an essential factor in the atrophication process.

Androgenetic alopecia is a common form of hair loss in both men and women. In men, this condition is also known as male-pattern baldness. Hair is lost in a well-defined pattern, beginning above both temples. Over time, the hairline recedes to form a characteristic "M" shape. Hair also thins at the crown (near the top of the head), often progressing to partial or complete baldness.

if you can hold one of these "baby hairs" in your hand and can barely see it I am afriad its not a good sign at all

i started feeling elated reading the beginning of this post..very hopeful and happy for all until i came to the end of the post and felt my bubble burst.

theres hope.....stay positive....all will be fine.....

scared sally i just went and got a hair cut last evening...long overdue...due to the length of my hair it was looking totally lifeless and thin..although i have curly and dry hair.
very happy masha'allahw with my hair cut...its taking 5 yrs off my face and dont feel too paranoid about the hair loss either.moreover my hair stylist told me my hair masha'allah is quite strong...well those few words just made my evening...gave me a boost feeling very happy masha'allah today.

God for you .. I dont know how old you are but my story went like this

from the age of 17 my hair thinned every year I had it cut shorter and shorter an inch here and inch there it looked better for a while then it started looking stragely and thin again and I had it cut shorter eventully when i was 30 I thought HANG ON what is happening here felt around my scalp and looked at it properly and my temples had minustrized hairs on it .. I was then diagnosed by a derm with Anrdogen genetic alopecia as was my twin sister who has PCOS also ... tried drugs, vitamins, regain etc etc and nothing worked its still thinning I now go to www.wattzinternational.co.uk and she now fixes my thinning hair with faboulous extensions (for now I can get away with them) however its still thinning and I am saving for a bonded hair peice.

Sally xx

hey sally...i do wish you good.
i am 30 years young and have had frequent bouts of hair fall following some or the other illness.
i too am responsible for ill treating the hair..bcos it was always curly and thick.
during my pregnancy i have used a lot of hot iron to straighten my curls.....damaged the hair.ever sicne my delivery a year ago i have noticed the hair has become limp and soft and so i can feel it more scanty now.thehair fall has always stabilised earlier....and never felt like now.
like i said its more noticeable in the past one month or more.
i have started on the supplements and ayurvedic topical treatment to see something positive and hope something does happen good.
the hair has become more soft curls or waves...rather than the rough curls it used to be.
the hair line is there.its just looks a bit more scanty now in the front middle...and am trying to work on that.
what is minustrised hair?
how old are you...if u dont mind?
how do you get androgen levels tested?

Mine are just as dark as the rest of my hair, and the same texture. Does that mean it is just regrowth? I will have to read up on this...

Probably a stage between normal growth and reduction to baby hair. The process may be slower with you.
