Default Hair Loss

Okay I've been trying to look online and mostly what I find it that you lose a lot of hair after giving birth, because while pregnant your hair is put into a suspended state. That scares me to DEATH!

The hair on my head has steadily been falling out since I concieved. I keep trying to remember if it fell out at all before that, but I don't think it did! I thought it was from taking metformin, I started that in march. got pregnant end of May, and stopped the metformin at 12 weeks.

they say that losing 120 hairs a day is normal. I NEVER lost hair, at all, up until now. It's freaking me out. Everyday I brush my hair and probably a good 50 hairs come out. My hair is now very thin , especially on the top by my bangs, and on the sides. I dont have a bald spot (THANK GOD), and my hair is not receeding.

Has ANYONE at all .. experienced this while pregnant?? I haven't asked my doctor yet because like I said, I kept hoping it was just the metformin. I've been on three different vitamins too so I wouldn't think it would be related to that.

I don't know what to do and I guess just am hoping that I'm not the only one going thru this. If my hairs falling out now, and it's SUPPOSED to after I have the baby, I think I might just get a wig

I shed hair like crazy now! Way more than before I was pregnant. I have to clean out the shower drain and my brush after every use. I have read that some women lose hair and some get better hair while pregnant. Go figure.

I have been losing hair lately at such a rate that my previous feelings - all women in my family need wigs eventually and I know some day I will, too - have changed to actually collecting names and addresses of local wig shops. The hair loss is HIDEOUS... I hate it. My hair is such a pretty color but it is so damn thin and ratty it just isn't right. I am thinking it has been so bad since being pregnant because of the progesterone - progesterone acts like an androgen, hence the lovely zits and all.

I lost hair in the first trimester with my son and then it seemed to stop - I am hoping that happens this time, too. And then yeah, of course there is the lovely dumping of hair about 4 months post partum which sucks. This time around my hair is so much noticably thinner already that I am dreading that extra hard.

The shedding seems to be lessening somewhat but maybe it's just because I am running out of hair.

Yes, I have noticed that too..Whenever I get up in the middle of the night, I grab at the end of my hair, and pull hairs out that have fallen and are like itching me. In the shower too... Hope it stops after I give birth!

Yep I noticed it too. Asked my dr and he said it was normal because I was being bombarded by hormones that I normally dont have. He then said "it is ok it will grow back by the time you are 87." LOL I was like ok thanks.

I shed hair horrifically on metformin (long before pg, met never made me O, what a joke).

While pg, I stopped shedding hair. From weeks 8-12 I shed mildly (I had girl baby). Then it grew in, and grew back in spots that had been bald for years!

4 months postpartum I shed BADLY and diffusely. I clogged the drain 6 times in 3 months--with the haircatcher on it! I finally stopped shedding. I think I still have some hair in the pre-pg areas (male pattern) but it's not as thick as when pg.

And when I was pg, my hair grew slow as a snail.

Glad I'm not the only one. Im going to just ask my doc I guess when I'm there on the 22nd but I dont expect him to have an answer really. I've been starting to part my hair the other direction so it's not so noticable (it's mostly thinned along my usual part)

I never had this issue when on BCP.. and I'm not sure if I'll be able to go back on them after having the baby because I have a blood clotting disorder. I'd like to ask that too but it seems like getting a head of myself haha.

I've always had fine and rather thin hair. In the past week, I have all but stopped shedding - it's wierd. My hair seems a lot more thick than usual as well.

This happened to me too with my second pregnancy. It tapered off maybe halfway through the pregnancy. My doctor said it was from either pregnancy hormones OR my thyroid. They tested my thyroid and it was normal... so it had to be those hormones!!

Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? And yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7
