Does everyone that has PCOS experience hair loss, I am not sure if I am just over reacting because I have been reading so much about hair loss on this site. This sounds stupid but I am not sure if I have hair loss or not, my hair does not come out in clumps. I mean when I comb my hair after a shower some strands to come out on the brush but I would not say excessive amounts. I don't know if it is all in my head that I feel like my hair is getting thinner?? Should I just mention it to my doctor? I am freaking out sorry.
I've been going through the same thing. Once I stopped taking my birth control, I noticed, what felt like to me, an abnormal amount of hair loss. I could see loose hair on my clothes and in the shower. Everytime I'd comb my hair, an abnormal amount of hair would come out. I tried to chalk it up to dying my hair, but its been months since I dyed it. I went out and bought deep conditioners and heat treatments. So far, my hair loss seems to have regulated, but being on BC seemed to stop any excess hair loss.
Hope this helps!

We all have a different mix of characteristics -- more severely affected by some, less severely by others. It's most unlikely you'll experience all the characteristics severely.
Just by way of example, I've had no problem conceiving and my hair loss is relatively limited -- it's really only obvious in terms of the hair receding at the the temples. On the other hand I've moustache and beard growth as heavy as many men and shave every day. And I'm virtually flat-chested.
Yes, everyone is different. I don't have a facial hair problem except a couple of thick hairs on my neck but I have a lot of leg hair and I have hair loss. I've lost half my hair. And I'm not overweight, and neither do I have abnormal periods. But I have acne.
i keep thinking i'm experiencing hair loss . before the pcos diagnosis i just assumed the hairball on my brush each day was due to having really long, thick and frizzy hair that tangled like a mofo. now i'm starting to wonder... just waiting it out is so, so frustrating. btw, is your hair naturally kinky and prone to tangles? i've heard it from a few people that if you have that type of hair, rather than the normal shedding just floating off during the day unnoticed, it tends to get caught up in your hair and all come out at once after a good brushing. so normal hairloss can look like the beginnings of baldness if you've conditioned yourself to expect that.
I have the same problem... I don't know if I am losing hair or not! I have very long thick hair and have always shedded hair here and there which is normal... I never thought much of it, other than it being annoying if a hair dropped onto my skin and itched. It's been like that since I was a kid. But once I was diagnosed with PCOS (due to hirsutism, which is my main symptom) I have been paranoid about hair loss. At least hirsutism can be covered up fairly easily, or even eliminated with laser... hair loss is a lot more permanent! I noticed that while I was on 200mg of spiro even my normal shedding seemed to lessen (just the everyday shower stuff which I don't think was more than a normal person would lose.) I was also getting less hair on my brush, even though I never got that much to begin with. But lately I have dropped to 100mg of spiro because of side effects and also because I kept forgetting to take my second dose, and figured it was better to reduce it than to let my hormones go up and down every day... and the 100mg seemed to be working just as well as the 200 for my hirsutism so I stayed on it. But now I think I am shedding more hair. Three times during this period a 'clump' of several strands of hair (maybe 10 or so?) came off while I was brushing my wet hair. I also noticed more hairs in the shower (but nothing like some of the pics I've seen on here.)
BUT, just this morning, I can't believe how much hair I shedded... my hair was very tangled last night so that might have something to do with it, but I brushed my hair and many strands came out... and they were all over the sink... and I could run my hands through my hair and strands would just come out. I don't think that's ever happened before. I am very nervous now, but also not sure if maybe it is seasonal or something, because fall has just started here and maybe my body is responding to the weather somehow? Like how animals increase shedding? My cat is shedding a lot right now too.
Any advice?
