Default Hair Loss?

Hi there! I'm new(er) here. I read often, but don't post.

I've been on glucophage 500mg xr, 3 per day. I started it back in October. I started having a more regular cycles and my personal life is back on track . I didn't take the glucophage for the entire month of december, however, because I got very very sick. I re-started and my hair started falling out.

I do have thicker hair, so I seem to always been shedding, but this is clumps of hair, clogging drains kind of falling out. It has seemed to have gotten worse in the last couple of weeks.

Can glucophage have the side effect of hair loss?

Getting really sick can cause hair loss. When I first started taking glucophage, I started losing my hair and really freaked. I spoke with the pharmacist and asked it it could cause it. He said any med can contribute to hair loss. I brought this up to the doctor several months later and she started asking me questions about being under a lot of stress and she listed a few others. Right before starting Gluc, I was having to deal with two legal issues that were causing me a great deal of stress. Btw, once those legal issues were gone, my hairloss slowed down. After about 6 months or so, it started growing back. I hope it slows down for you and you might try some very good vitamins. I take UltraNutrients by Pure Encapsulations(can only be bought in a pharmacy and w/o prescription) and it helps my hair and nails quite a bit. Good luck!
