Default Hair Loss - Almost 9 months on Meds

Hi,
I've been on the following splurge for the past almost 9 months:
Spironolactone 100mg twice a day
Finasteride 2.5 mg
Metformin 500 mg twice a day
Yaz

When I first started my treatment, I noticed a significant improvement in my hair loss. But now it seems like things are back to before. I've lost so much hair in the past year. I'm almost going bald at the back of my head
.

I really don't know what to do. Gone to a couple of dermatologists and they just tell me "there's nothign else we can do. You're already on aggressive treatment for your hair loss."

My endo is telling me to wait it out, but I'm extremely concerned what my situation will be in another couple of months. This has only gotten worse for me with time.

Has anyone else gone through this. Please tell me I won't go bald.

Hi,

I had quite bad hair thinning arund my hairline after a few years on metformin and cyproterone acetate. I decided to stop taking cyproterone acetate - terrible idea! After four months I had developed terrible hirsutism (which I had never really had before) and had horrendous acne. So went back on it.

BUT, I had my vitamin levels checked and I was really deficient in B vitamins (especially B6 and B12). I started taking a strong B-complex (including inositol, and biotin along with all the others) and have had amazing results for hair growth (of the head sort thankfully!). My hair is completely growing back on the hairline, and I went to the hairdresser last week and she laughed when she looked at my hair because she said that over my whole head it looked as if I had my usual long hair and then a second short haircut. I look a bit daft with about 1 1/2 inches off hair growth sprouting all over my head, but would rather look silly for a year than lose my hair!

Can't recommend it strongly enough.

Good luck with everything.

If things were working at first and they suddently got bad again that means somethings going on. I think you should ask your doctor to look into it more.

Thanks for replying, everyone.
Ramona_Lily, did you just ask your pcp to check your vitamin b levels?
How will I know if my levels are low?

I'm definitely going to give that a try. I've also read that omega 3 deficiency can cause hair loss. I'm wondering if I have that...

It's really frustrating for me since my treatment is workign for almost everything else (hirsutism, acne, my metabolism is 10 times better since I started my meds), but it's just not helping that much with my hair loss.

Thanks for giving me a ray of hope. I really hope I find a solution to this soon. I"m only 25. My parts have significantly thinned at the back of my head, I've noticed my hairline moving back a little. It's soooo scary
I just don't want to lose anymore hair .

Wish me luck!

Hi,

I got a full vitamin/nutrient blood test (not sure what the technical term is!), which cost me about £200 but really worth it as I was spending so much money on products for my hair. I am sure that dr would be able to check your iron/vitamin B levels if you asked.

I know how horrible it is, so really hope it works for you. I am 28 and my hair started thinning at 24. Its just easy to blame to pcos for everything, so I think its worth checking out alternatives. Mine may originally have been due to androgens, but given that the regrowth was even stronger when I was off the meds but taking vitamin B, it (fingers crossed) doesn't seem to be what has been causing it over last couple few years.

It took me a couple of months to see any results. I have been taking 3 B complex pills a day (even though you're only meant to take one) so would recommend you check with you Dr.

Have my fingers and toes crossed for you.

x

p.s. have recently started taking fishoils and they seem to have helped my skin a bit.
