1. Came off Dianette (Diane-35). This was actually given to me to reduce hairloss, but ended up doing the opposite. I took it for 6 horrible, horrible years.
2. Started washing with Nizoral every other day.
That's all it took for me. I just wish I'd figured it out sooner! You can view my previous posts to see how crazy my hair loss was =(
Flutamide stopped my hair loss. You shouldn't take it if you are trying to conceive. The hair loss cycles stopped almost immediately for me.

Im interested to know why you think the Dinaette was causing your hair loss. Mine started after I was on Yasmin, but Im concered if I go off bc, I will loose more.
I'm 100% sure it was the Dianette. Before I started it, I wasn't really losing any hair. I was prescribed it for acne, and my doctor said "it's best to take it to prevent other symptoms which you may start to get, such as weight gain hair loss".
About 4 months after starting it, I started to gain weight (103 pounds to 132 pounds, which for my height is ALOT) and my hair started to fall out. It took me 6 years to build up the courage to come off the pill - I was thinking the same thing as you, that if I stopped it things would get worse. But since coming off my hairloss has stopped and I've stopped gaining weight.
I would strongly advise you to go and see your GP and express your concerns. Don't let them shun you off and say that the pill does the opposite, so it can't be causing your hairloss. I'm a pharmacist and I know that different people react differently to different meds. For me I'm certain that Dianette triggered a lot of symptoms in me rather than preventing them. I'm currently not taking anything. Granted my skin is not as perfect as it was when I was on the pill, but I'd rather have oily skin than be bald. And Dianette made me feel nauseous and fatigued every single day.

Hope you work something out, keep me updated xxx
Toota,
Thanks for your reply! I went on the pill for my acne too and thats when my problems started. Besides the hair loss I also experienced darker hair on my legs and stomach...I went to an endo and did tests that showed I had high testosterone. I started off with Yasmin and then switched to Ortho Cyclen which has been a little bit better. I have talked to my endo about the pill and she told me to definitely stay on it. I'm really confused because i've read that the pill can cause IR but im terrified to go off it and have my estrogen levels drop (causing more hair loss). Its also hard b/c i know when going off the pill alot of women experience an huge shedding of hair. Did you experience this? Did any of your hair grow back? Like you, im also extremely exhausted and feel like im in a constant "brain fog" while im on the pill. Thanks for your advice.
Uh-oh, hold the phone...Yasmin caused increased hair loss for you guys? I'm curious because I've just recently noticed that my hair is thinning, and my doc switched me to Yasmin because at the same time, I complained to her that my current BC seemed to be increasing scarring after breakouts.
I haven't started on the box of Yasmin yet (still on the old BC) but if it's going to worsen hair loss, eek! Fuhgeddaboutit! Could this be because Yasmin has a lower progesterone component than regular-dose BC?

I haven't found the magic bullet yet but lately I have been using the Doctor's Approach products and I have noticed a HUGE difference. My hair was coming (and still is) coming out the root but not as much. Also I try to comb out my hair BEFORE I wash it and then afterwards I try not to manipulate it too much. I have also used DermaSmooth (peanut oil with a light steroid ingredient). This has kept the scaley skin away making it easier on my hair shafts.
It always seems like a shot in the dark. For a few years my hair was growing so thick and full and I start to think that was around the time I started taking birth control for the first time. Could it be? Who knows! My search continues.
I know a few girlfriends that have PCOS and Yasmin worked great for them. I think it just depends on how it reacts with your body which is different for everyone. Alot of Dr.s put PCOS women on Yasmin b/c it has an anti-androgen component. However, I've also read that Yasmin causes the worst IR ...so if you think you are IR I would definitely talk to your Dr. about another bc. I'm currently on Ortho-Cyclen which has been better than Yasmin. It is supposed to be a "hair-friendly" pill.
Diane-35 and Rogaine was the ticket for me, if I added a little weight loss to the formula it was even better. I'm off the pill and rogaine at the moment to ttc and all hell (hair loss/acne issues) is breaking loose!
I did find out recently my iron was low though too. So maybe supplementing iron will help in a way i never thought before.

I've been on Yasmin for almost a year now and it hasn't resulted in my losing more hair because of it. I agree everyone's body will act differently to each BCP.
