Hey guys - I've been diagnosed relatively recently, though I'm sure I've had it for a long long time. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. I was wondering about how much hair loss is normal - I've read 50-100 hairs a day, my hairdresser says that 200 a day is normal. It's not coming out in clumps (yet) but it is certainly not as thick as it was. My family and friends are telling me I'm crazy, but I know how much thinner it is.
I have gone blonde - and have gotten lighter and lighter over the past 3 years or so. I don't know what is breakage and what is loss. When I get out of the shower there is none visible in the drain, but there seems to be a lot in the comb.
What should I be looking for and is there any way to head this off?
Hi...I am not sure what to do...but if you wait long enough someone will be able to answer your question. I wanted to Welcome you to SC. Hope to see you around.

I have all of the classic symptoms but this hair loss thing is really getting me down. I've been reading about people who are saying their hair loss is substantial and I seem to be losing more than that, usually I count about 100 a day, between the shower and the brush...
With me it happens the same. I have thin hair but no excessive hairloss (yet ? ). I think I am loosing around 100 hairs (maybe 150) a day and this is pretty normal. My dr told this to me and so did it my hairdresser. Furthermore, if you get older, your hair becomes a little bit thinner almost every year. Okay, you are not old or so but this development is really pretty normal. Excessive hair loss would be - in my opinion - if you loose at least 300 hairs a day.
Thanks a lot - I just don't have anything to compare it to - my hair was always super thick and coarse. I suspect that the coloring has something to do with the change in texture, but I didn't know how much. This is the most disturbing side effect of the PCOS that I have encountered - other than the infertitlity of course - that's another whole story!!!! :o)
I don't think it is so much how much you are losing per day that is the issue, but whether or not the hair is growing back in as thick as before. You say it isn't, so you might want to look into what could be causing it, whether it is the beginning of the dreaded AGA, or something like the colouring, iron deficiency or thyroid problems causing it.
Oops, I didn't mean to suggest you had thyroid probs or iron deficiency, I was just trying to think of classic causes of female hairloss other than common balding. I realise that kind of read wrong.
