Exclamation Hair Loss Help Needed!

My hair started thinning at 24. I'm now a couple weeks away from 32, and it just looks horrible. I am so embarrassed. I wear bandanas in the summer, and hats in the winter. I am so self-conscious about it, and it has ruined the little self-esteem that I had left. Does anyone have any ideas? Does Metformin help? Do BC pills help? Are there ANY drugs that help? I don't want to use Rogaine, and I can't afford transplants (my dream!) I had heard from another woman with PCOS that said she had gotten her hair back while on a certain brand of BC pills, but I can't remember the name. Does it grow back? Has anyone had any luck, or am I doomed to be a bald freak for the rest of my life? I don't know how much longer I can handle it. Please help!

Hi

Welcome to sc. There's loads of info about hair/ hair loss. If you do a 'search' there's loads to read. That's what I've been doing recently.

The hair loss is terrible, isnt it?

Two years ago, my hair began thinning overall and balding at the temples. I started using Evening Primrose oil (2 a day) and Flax seeds ground up (2 tablespoons a day) and in about 8 weeks I noticed my hair was regrowing...and I no longer had bald patches at my temples.

You should give this a try. Metformin has helped some people with hair loss but it also is the CAUSE of hair loss sometimes.

I think the natural solutions are the best ones and the longest lasting ones.

Some people have had success with changing their diets. I think an anti-inflammatory (low/no processed food diet) works best for women with PCOS..such as Dr. Perricone's or the Fat Flush Plan.

Do not give up hope. There are a lot of things you can do. First off, try and find a good doctor who can run the proper tests so you can find out exactly what you are dealing with.

it's difficult to tell you what is best to do because it's always different for everyone. for some people, something might work, and for others it might not. you might have to try a lot of different things. what i have been able to do is take BCPs, get a lot of exercise (believe it or not but exercise can cure a lot of things), and i take vitamins and changed my diet to a healthier version (my choice was vegan, but i've heard good things about low carb too). the hair loss is mostly hormonal, and anything that will balance your hormones will do you atleast some good.
