Default hair loss question

Well Ladies, I am here typing this post...running my hands through my hair and noticing it has been falling out. I just lost 5 hairs while typing that sentence. I've noticed that my usually thick hair is getting thinner. (There goes another one!) I am beginning to feel like Charlie Brown's sad little christmas tree who kept losing it's needles...

I was told by someone that there was a difference between from when the hair just falls out verses when it falls out with the bulb/shaft attached to the end.

Can anyone shed any light on that theory and what it could mean?

The thing wiht PCOS hairloss is that we tend to shed hairs quicker than we replace them .. the hairs I am losing (what hairs I have left !) have no bulb on them but a white hard lump on the end .... barely visible ... if I Was to run my fingers through my hair now .. I would come away wiht probably ten to fifteen and thats just doing it gentally ...

Oh wow...my loss is not that bad. But i am sure that i am heading that way . I, too have the little white on the end of it each hair. I also have the short hairs that are growing in from the last time it fell out. Every month it's something new....

Thanks for your reply!

This will be my first post in this section, but I'm finally ready to admit that I'm losing a lot of hair. I clean out my brush a couple times a day and a bunch come out after washing it. Not to mention just through the day when I run my hands through it, pull out a rubber band or just pick it off my clothes all day long.

I'm not sure about the "bulb" thing. I have a tiny peice of scalp that comes out usually on each strand, so I know it's not breaking mid strand. I've lost about 1/2 of the volume I had since April. It's depressing, but then I try to remember, it's only hair...

I'm still trying to decide when to cut it short and after that is too thin, if I want to invest in a wig or just wear hats and wraps.

It's depressing, but you aren't alone (((hugs)))

I think PCOS had to be one of the most embarrassing conditions in the world because of all the physical symptoms.

I have always lost a lot of hair, but mine is really thick and I never noticed it getting thinner before now. I am worried that it is something that I have started doing that is making it worse. Have you noticed any meds that make it worse or foods or stress. And what are your best tips for keeping the hair you have?

Having Low iron can cause hair to shed APPARENTLY but mine is all back up and normal ad I still shed hairs .....

I was lulcky I was blessed with thick thick hair .. its thinned over the years to today I am now 32 and I have to wear extensions around my hairline and front part as I have lost so much hair ..... i am already in the process of looking at wigs .... people say its only hair but its not common for woman to be accepted balding ? Its an awful affliction and definatly the worst one that females with PCOS have to go through... I thought I was getting off lightly with PCOS I have no weight problems, I do have some body hair but I can remove that, and yes I have irregular cycles but then I get to go bald and i realise I am not getting off lightly at all

OOOOOOO *hugs*.... OK, I was DX'd with PCOS back in 95.. And in all the yrs I have been dealing with this, never had i ever dealt with HAIR LOSS...... NEVER!!

About 1 yr ago, after having my son. My hair started falling out at such a rapid pace, anyway. I had my thyroid tested, and all though my levels were NORMAL, My Thyroid Anitbodies were ELEVATED! Which explained ALOT of what I have been dealing with!

I have been put on Synthroid too help with this, it is working very well for me. I was still losing hair, and I was reading and exert from a book that mentioned this Doc recommending his patients take 1500 mgs of EPO daily too help with this. So I started taking EPO, and OMG....... I lose like maybe 5 hairs a DAY now as opposed too ALL DAY LONG.

Just thought I would toss this out your way.. I never thought I would say this too anyone, but Maybe get your thyroid checked.. Especially the Anitbodies portion of it!

So sorry you are dealing with this. I feel so bad for you, and I know how your feeling *hugs*

I thought no-one would want to bother with me when I had no breasts and had to shave every day or I would have a moustache like a guy. I'm happy to admit I was wrong -- and what's more, my (now) husband first saw me when I hadn't shaved for 24 hours and had obvious coarse stubble on my upper lip. He says if I hadn't had the obvious stubble he probably wouldn't have bothered about me, because with my flat chest I looked like an underdeveloped 12-year-old, but he reckoned that if I had coarse stubble likethat I must have been shaving for years. As indeed I had, because I was 19. Don't give up hope. I'm sure my hair was receding a bit at the temples even then.
