I think as with everything to do with PCOS, not all of us get all the symptoms. I did have a phase where my hair started to get a bit thinner but like you I have very thick hair so it doesn't notice and it's fine now. x

That's how mine started.. It used to be really thick but now it's quite noticably thin. It seems to have slowed down a little now, hopefully it'll stay that way!

You MIGHT get hair loss. We're all different with this syndrome. For instance, I've never had acne, not even the occasional zit as a teen.

My hair started thinning over all while in my late thirties. The severe thinning and loss has been in the last couple years, 43-45.

Default Hair Loss

I had very thick hair before PCOS. It started to fall out in clumps and got so thin i thought i was going bald! But i did a lot of reading on it and having had good hair in the past i was able to grow it back. My advice to all you suffering (I know how depressing it can be!)
is to watch the shampoo you are using change to a mild one, dont use the hairdryer. Hair is made up of a protien called biotin found in vitamin B tablets, i took these along with evening primrose oil and put coconut oil in my hair 3 times a week. Also going on Diane 35 really helped my hair growth. It is a tedious and depressing situation but dont distress there are ways to get your hair back!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT! I have been a MESS since the hairloss started 7 months ago! I have always had thick thick hair and I loved it. It has been thinning fast for months, and I have been on Yasmin for 5 1/2 months and Spiro for 2 months - too soon to know if either one will help! I AM PRAYING that the shedidng slows down soon! are you taking anything other than Diane 35 - BCP, right? I also take vitamins - biotin, B-12, B-Complex, Multi, and Fish Oils. I also only use mild shampoos from the natural store. It is thinner on top but not too noticeable JUST yet! Thanks for the hope

HI

aww! I know what you mean. I just hate to wash/ brush my hair. I have to save it all in a little carrier bag to throw away. And totally block the sink

My hair is really , really thick, so far it's not been noticed by anyone else. Although I get my dh to check it for me before I go out each day.

The hairloss is probably one of the most emotionally painful parts of PCOS,of course not everyone gets the same symptom, but if you are noticing hairloss, the good news is,most of the time it slows down and grows back.PCOS can shrink the actual hair folicle.I used to have allot of hair, everyone complimented on it,it was down to my waist, wavy and thick, then i lost allot with PCOS,its slowed down and grows back, but im still trying to recover it to its previous condition.

My mom recently told me that she's been taking coral calcium supplements for the past two years, and her hair is now twice as thick as it was. She swears it's from the calcium, so I thought I'd pass that along.

I am fortunate that I don't suffer from hair loss, but I've been wondering about it. Supposedly it's from the increased testosterone, right? Since the male pattern baldness gene is carried by females, I wonder if those of you with that gene are the ones suffering from hair loss? Sort of like the extra testosterone activates it, when the gene would normally only manifest symptoms in a male. Baldness doesn't run in my family, and I'm not losing my hair. It's probably a coincidence, but since I have EVERY OTHER symptom of PCOS, it's kind of interesting, don't you think?

Default Shedding like my dog!

I have been shedding for years now. I thought it was from having my Daughter, but it has been coming out really bad for a few months now. I think i'm shedding worse than my dog. I am so worried that it keeps me up at night. My hair also used to be very thick and long. It is getting very thin on the top. When I used ponytails - I could only wrap it around two times.....now I have to wrap it three or four times to get it tight enough to stay. I read that Saw Palmetto is supposed to help, so I'm waiting for Vitamin World to have their monthly sale and i'm going to stock up!

Unfortuantly worrying about your hairloss and going to dumb trichologists only makes it worse! I went to see a trichologist who told me i would never get my hair back, i am now sitting here with my hair almost restored so he can just eat his words! Ladies please dont get distressed do as much reading about PCOS related hair loss and educate your selves! I used to sit there crying over my old pictures i was so upset all the time, and to top it all off everyone noticed and mentioned it making it so much worse! hang in there ladies it does get better!

Hey jesrs17, It took a whole year before i saw any change in my hair. But i noticed worrying and stress really made it worse. I oilied my hair to make the roots strong and promote growth, i really reccomend coconut oil mixed with amla hair oil which can usually be found in an indian grocery store. The earlier you tackle the situation the better the results. There is this shampoo called kenue for hairloss it comes with a tonic which really slowed down my hairloss. It seems that you are doing all the right things so dont worry, it will get better, just start believing that it will!

Well, sometimes.

And for some of us, in spite of interventions, it never does.
