Default Hair loss remains constant

Hi everyone-

I never had any trouble with hair loss until I started birth control pills (Ortho-Tri-Cyclen) last April. In about July of last year, I noticed more shedding than normal. That shed has continued and not decreased. I stopped taking the birth control pills due to the fact that they were making me feel depressed/anxious. I've also noticed that most of the shed is on the right side of my scalp. The right side has thinned a lot, and the left is thicker. I don't have the typical thinning near the forehead/bang/part line. I have normally fine hair to begin with, but the constant shed is making it look a lot thinner than normal. I'm in the middle of trying to get diagnosed with PCOS with my endo, and while I have most of the signs, the hair loss is the one that I want to be corrected more than anything. I can deal with shaving my chin daily if I can just see some regrowth of my hair.

My questions are- has anyone experienced the hair loss throughout the time they were on birth control? Was there any success in slowing the shedding once off the pill? When can I expect to see a slow and hope for regrowth? I really don't want to take bcps if I don't have to- what other medicines can my endo suggest? I eat pretty healthy and exercise frequently and am in a healthy weight range. Without bcps, my cycles are very irregular.

many cysters take an anti-androgen, along with BCP's to control shedding and facial hair...

My doctor refused to give me anything for huge hunks of my hair falling out. So I decided to start taking multi vitamins made for hair (gnc ultra nourish hair) and saw palmetto which is supposed to be good for blocking horomones that cause hair loss. In addition I stopped using shampoos with sodium laureth sulfate and ammonium lauryl sulfate because they can make hair loss worse. Hope this helps.
