Default Hair loss in shower

about a year ago i used to have long hair down past my shoulders. My hair has always been thick but whenever i got in the shower clump after clump of hair would come out. it would be between my fingers and all over my shoulders. i would block the plug hole after one shower. Since then ive had my hair cut faily short abouve shoulder lengh nd it not as bad but still alot comes out. does anyone else have this problem?

For the amount of hair that comes out i should be bald but my hair is still always as thick as its always been

hi

yes, i had my hair cut short , too. Stil get lots coming out each time i wash/ brush it. My gp said that the longer your hair is, the more will come out - cos of the weight of the hair. She said that's why my loss isnt as much now. If that makes sence

My hair falls out all the time. For the most part there is just one spot that looks thinner. The rest of my hair is still relatively think I guess. Stll not as think as when I was younger but still thicker than my sister who doesnt have pcos and her hair doesnt fall. My twin brother is going bald to. I read somewhere that the brothers of women with pcos alot of the time are bald. I am pregnant now and I have always heard that your hair stops falling out while you are pregnant. Not the case for me. I have also heard that after pregnancy your hair falls out alot. Gosh I hope not. I have also heard that your boobs get bigger in pregnancy and mine did not that was a disappointment. Since mine are small. I am rambling. Take care and God Bless.

Same here. My boyfriend gets annoyed by it. He even bought hair traps for the shower drain.

I wanted to comment and say that my hair usually is below my butt and I just had it cut off to above my shoulders.

When it was long it would fall out everywhere. Not just in the shower. But the shower would look like the walls had grown hair, because I would stick it to the walls !!

But not only does it come out there, my clothes are always covered in it. It falls down the back of my neck, into my shirt, and then get caught in my bra which itches my back!! That drives me insane!!

Now that my hair is short, it still falls out like it did.

I'm not on anything for it, but I may mention it to the dr when I go back.

Smile Hair loss

Hair loss has been the most difficult PCOS symptom for me. I would be devastated every time I would wash my hair and ended up with hair wrapped around my fingers.
I had elevated testosterone levels. I am very sensitive to it. When my numbers are above 22 or so my symptoms increase.
The only thing that has worked for me is Flutamide. I started in June. The hair loss has stopped! I am amazed. It works on the DHT part of Testosterone. I now have 28 day cycles and finally feel like my body is working properly. Please don't wait until you have bald spots to seek treatment for the hair loss. Good luck.

Me too.
My hair started falling out after my son was born in '97, apparantly that's normal after child birth but mine never stopped. My hair used to be so thick (and because it's so frzzy it still looks thick) but I have recently started to notice large areas that are thin to the point you can see scalp at the back.
I will start my metformin in the next week (probably after New Years) so I am praying that if it doesn't reverse it that it will at least slow it down a lot.
I honestly don't know how I still have any hair because if I touch it or scratch my head there are clumps of hair coming out, mine is only to my shoulders but I may cut it since I have read a few people have noticed less with short hair. My problem is that having somewhat long hair has been my almost last grasp at femininity which makes me really depressed.

I am thinking of getting my hair cut a bit shorter because of this same problem.
I definitely have thin and even bald spots in the back.

One thing that helps me a bit that might help you is to take baths instead of showers. When I soak/wash my hair in the bath, it seems to pull less on the hair and less falls out. My hair also seems to be softer with less tangles after a bath than a shower, which helps in the combing for less breakage and pulling.

I can definitely relate, though.

Unhappy

I have noticed that my hair falls out when I shower. It is scary because it has been happening for a few years now and I did not know why. About 1 month ago the doctor told me that I might have PCOS. She called last week and told me that I did have PCOS and I have an appointment in January. Hopefully she will give me something for my hair loss!! The sad thing is that my hair is thinning really bad at the top (Front) and I can see my scalp. So I comb my hair back and then use bobby pins so that other people will not notice! It has affected my confidence and my self esteem! Hopefully things will get better when I start taking some medication.

We find hair of mine all over the place in our house. I can't do much about it, it just keeps falling out. I've clogged up the drain very badly with my hair loss. It's actually very depressing to pull all that hair out of the shower drain.

Hi i have the same problem I had my hair long and My hair just kept falling out and I got tired of my hair falling out so i cut it and it still does not help even being short. It gets to the point where i even hate brushing my hair and having to see all the hair. My husband said there are 3 people in the shower with us me, him, and the clump of hair AKA "cousin it."

That was the hardest symptom of PCOS for me too. It's not so bad now, but I remember being a teenager and clumps just falling out in my hands, or all over my fingers when I washed my hair...even my mom would comment on how much hair I lost, and I was forever clogging up sink drains, bc all the hair that would get on my hands as I was styling my hair. I have thick hair so it wasn't really noticible.

yep i have the same problem! I have been growing my hair out and it has gotten worse, it seems the longer my hair gets the more it comes out! I used to have very thick hair but now it seems to be getting thinner which kinda scares me becuase my hair is the only thing that I really like about myself. When ever I put my hair in a ponytail or braid it is will come out in clumps. I hate it. If my forehead gets any bigger I am going to have to get bangs.
