A friend of mine was talking to me and when he turned to go he suddenly walked up to the back of my head and said, "Wow! I never noticed that before!"
"What?" I said and about fainted. Oh no, I thought, he has noticed my bald spot. I hoped and prayed that he wouldn't say anything cruel because, after all, he is bald himself and has probably had his share of remarks.
I have pure white hair and I also worried that he would see that I cover my bald spot with talcum powder. It works pretty good and I try to blend it in, but maybe he saw some powder flakes and thought it was weird dandruff or something.
I sat there, with my heart beating wildly. I was willing to explain to him about PCOS and my hair loss, but I just didn't feel like it. It's bad enough to live with without having to explain it to people who usually don't really understand and some don't even try to understand.
Then he said, "This is so cool...do you know that in your pure white hair there are a few pure black hairs mixed in there?"
"Uh...yes...yes...that's weird, isn't it?" I replied, relieved that it wasn't about the bald spot.
"No, it's not weird, I like it! It looks great!" he said.
Whew!
Such are the tales of hair loss worries!
