Question Hair Pieces and Hair Loss

I have had hair loss for the past maybe 4 years. It got really bad to the point where I was wearing bandanas, hats and scarves whenever possible to conceal it. Then it seemed to improve for a bit, but since I came off Dianette it has just gone really bad again. On the whole I am not that bothered about it as I am at home most of the time... I do notice it and I find hair everywhere... can't even cook without it falling into the food!! :o

So anyway, my sister is getting married at the end of May and I am a bridesmaid. I wondered if any of you have used a temporary hair piece to increase the volume of your hair for a special occasion? I don't want to wear one all the time... and I am not that bothered about my actual thinning/bald areas... which are on the top of my head... it's just that I want my hair to look thicker as I plan on having it half up/half down and wavy.

Any thoughts appreciated!

I've never actually tried a hair piece, however, I was going to try hair extensions since I am getting married in April. I do warn you, though, that hair extensions can make your hair more prone to fall out when they have to remove them. (They are glued / or weaved into your hair) Make sure you check out a couple of places and go to a reputable one, since you don't want to end up losing more.

Hi Vlal

I dont have thinning hair as such but i do have fine hair,

When i got married i bought a hair piece from Debenhams of all places. It was just to help the volume of my up do (i wore all my hair up).

Anyway i never wore it as i found a fantastic hairdresser who did wonders will rollers and back combing which made my hair look fantastic.

I am sure this post is not much help but i thought i would just tell you about my experience

Thanks Lucy! I guess that's a thought... I will have to have a hair trial and see what they can do. I will look around and see if they have any hair pieces in the high street, then I can see if I need it or not. I have never noticed any hair pieces in Debenhams... do you know any other high street shops that sell them?

I definately agree on the hairdresser thing. My hairdesser layers mine in such a way it looks fuller. Sadly doesn't do much for the receeding lol But I can usually hide the fact that the top of my scalp is pretty bare.

I had considered extensions too but apparently my hair is too thin to hold it in. So that's a no go. Hair piece, even my doctor has suggested that ... I'll look into it. I've been toying with the idea of a hair transplant. I'm looking into that one.

Some hairdressers do hair pieces and they also help fit and shape them. Phone around

Most of all, have a great day at the wedding

Dreamy,

Hi and thanks for the advice. It's a good idea to call around and see if any hairdressers do it. I will look into it. It's a pity you can't have extensions, but I would worry if it was going to pull my hair out more + they are expensive.

Well done on the weightloss!!!

Have you heard of Lucinda Ellery Hair Extensions?

They specialise in helping people who have hair loss, and I notice on her site that people have got NHS funding. They are super wonderful, very understanding and they have a way of attaching extensions so they won't damage existing hair.
