Unhappy Hair problems...

Ok... so this is really embarrassing to talk about but I'm guessing most of the people on here know what I'm talking about so its ok! Lol. I was told that I probably have PCOS earlier this year. I went to the doctor to talk about the fact that I have excess hair growth on my face... I have always thought it was just because I once used my dads shaver when I was younger, jus being silly, I have always blamed that for it, but it isn't from that. I also have extra growth on my chest, and in between my breasts, where it is visible so I have started shaving it away... which really only causes it to grow thicker but I don't see what other choice I have now. I was just wondering if anyone has any ways that they know of to remove hair, both from my face and chest? I don't have the money to go get it done by electrolysis or whatever. I'm not allowed to go on the pill until I lose some weight but I hate the fact that I have to shave... I shave my chin but not my upper lip. I have avoided doing that because I don't want it to grow anymore than it already is... So yeah... thoughts would be great Thanks girls...

Hi! Check and see if you're doctor can put you on Aldactone/Spironolactone. It will help block the excess testosterone levels. I take 100 mg daily (50 mg in the a.m. and p.m.). It definitely helped slow the hair growth and the hairs seemed to get finer.

I should mention I did have electrolysis done many years ago and I just wasn't seeing drastic results. My hormones are just too crazy. I'm devoted to my tweezers.

EXCELLENT guide regarding PCOS and Excess Hair!

How Do Flutamide, Spironolactone/Aldactone work (or not work) to reduce hirsutism?

I find it a lot more helpful to tell myself that though most women don't have the sort of hair growth I have, it's normal for me and for a lot of other women. After all, one of the reason that many doctors don't make a big deal of it is that they know that so many women doactually have the sort of male-type hair growth that I have.

With regard to your breasts, you can get off without shaving them because it's not essential to let them be seen by others. You say you shave your chin but not your upper lip, which suggests that your moustache isn't all that heavy. Shaving it will certainly not make it any heavier or coarser. You might find shaving less hard to bear if you were to use a men's-type electric razor. I know it sounds a bit strange, but I think my rather funky purple/blue Philips rechargeable razor is a lot less masculine a way of removing my moustache and beard growth than shaving with a blade razor would be.

Hmmm yeah, I always find myself looking at other woman, looking for a hint of them having any facial hair because it makes me feel better about myself if they do. which is kinda bad but oh well. Wont shaving it make me get stubble though? Thats one thing I really want to avoid if possible. I know that now if I touch under my chin and rub it that I can almost always feel the stubble unless I've just shaved it... which sucks.

I have the same issues only my hair is very coarse and pretty thick. Right now I swear by Sally Hansen's hair remover creame. I have to use it like twice a week though cause my hair grows back fast. But I use it on my face and chest area and it works very good on hair. Its removes hair very close. Only thing is like any other remover it can burn your skin. But try sally hansen just make sure if you got coarse hair you get the coarse hair remover. Normal hair, get the normal hair remover.

I find myself looking at other women too...seeing if they have excess hair. I didn't know that this many women had excess hair until I got on this site. I'm the only 31 year old that I know of with acne. Boy am I glad to have found this site. I feel a little normal for a change. Oh yeah, I use Sally Hansen cream hair remover for my upper lip and chin.

I feel for you because I know what it is like having to deal with it since I was about 16. A lot of people do not understand this pcos and im not so sure that I do since i went and had hormone tests and she said everything was fine. How could it be???

I use a mens rotary shaver and just shave every morning. I do not even think about it anymore. Wake up, wash my face, brush my teeth and shave.

I couldn't put that better. And when it's a routine part of life every day, you don't have to think about it.

That's tremendously flattering, but I'm not worth thinking of as a hero -- or even a heroine :-) .

I just wish I hadn't wasted my teenage years being miserable because I had male-type body hair and a moustache that I had to shave every day by the time I was 15.

What I realize now -- and I wish I'd realized then -- is that it wasn't really the body hair or even the moustache that was making my life miserable. And it wasn't even the fact that I had no breast development that was obvious to outsiders. What was making me miserable was that I reckoned that no guy would ever want a girl like me.

It all changed when I found out I was wrong. When DH met me for the first time I hadn't shaved for a whole day and I wasn't wearing padding. He saw my coarse moustache stubble but he still was interested in me. He could see that I had been shaving for years to have coarse stubble like that, but he simply didn't see my moustache as a negative thing at all. For him it was a positive thing because it showed I must have been a lot older than my flatness suggested. And he's been every bit as positive when my beard began to grow in after I passed 40.

I know very well that I can't compete in the "beauty" stakes. But that doesn't mean I can't compete in the attractiveness stakes. And what's more I reckon I can give DH a far better physical relationship than most women could.

Nowadays I'm actually glad I have the sort of hormonal balance I have naturally. DH and I actually enjoy shaving together most mornings. And like you I use a men's-type rotary shaver.

Hi ladies, i have to shave atleast once a day on the beard, chin and side burn areas. I am so down about it as i get really bad rashes and bumps on my neck from shaving, i currently used a decent razor blade but it still causes so much pain. Any ideas to help? x
