Question hair removal - new plan!

I have just splashed out on one of those home electrolysis kits with the pads that you can stick on your face and body. Haven't used it yet though, as am convinced I'm going to electrocute myself. Has anyone tried these, and are they any good or have i wasted my hard earned cash? (although I did get Boots points, which is always a good thing )

Hi There!!

Sorry can't be of much help about the electrolysis thingie, I haven't tried that approach (YET).

However, I did recently purchase a Rio Waxing kit thingie (just like the ones they have in salons) from Index (Littlewoods) if I remember correctly I think it was about £45.00. It has worked tremendously for me so far. That is if you like waxing, but if your prepared to do electrolysis I am sure you won't mind waxing lol.

It is time consuming in that you have to melt and stir the wax, but I find the results much better than the cold wax strips from immac (now called veet). It even manages to get those really course dark hairs that seem to always come through.

Sooo sorry I can't be of much help but if all else fails, try the waxer. I am well pleased with mine :-)

Who makes this? It sounds great. I had a thing a while ago which was an electrolyis pen, but you had to hold it for thirty seconds at each individual hair! I gave up, I had no time to do it. How many hairs (roughly) would the pad cover?

do you mean the BabyLiss thing? I have it!

I found the best thing to do is first use the pads all over the area you want to remove the hair from, which kills the hair root but doesn't actually remove the hair, and then I used wax strips (the throw away kind also from Boots) to pull the hairs out ... they come out really easy and much less pain than usually from waxing. I even did my bikini line this way and it was not too painful at all! I don't usually wax my bikini line cos OUCH and it leaves a rash .. but this way was perfect.

You have to do the electrolysis regularly cos it only kills the hairs which are in the active stage of growth, takes a few goes to get all the buggers. I've lapsed a bit and haven't been using it as much, probably cos I don't NEED to use it so often ... has definitely made a difference to the hairs on my legs.

OOO it's on special offer! Reduced to £40 from £50. AND delivery is free for orders over £40 ... I'm sure you could find something else to order to make the cost "over" £40!

And I LOVE Boots points.

ooh - and does it work on hairs you've plucked - eg chin?

That's why I bought it - I can't resist an offer! Deeds - I think it does work on plucked hair, and it zaps lots of hair at the same time - the leg pads are about 1 and a half inches by 2 inches, and thare are small ones for elswhere, and moustache shaped ones as well!! How exciting.

It's fab to hear that it's worked for someone, i've started fantasizing about being hair free (although admittedly I also look like that dark haired one from baywatch, which ain't ever gonna happen!)

I've still not used the damn thing though!!!

Hair isn't a huge issue for me, although my hairs on my lower legs have definitely got thicker and darker over the years, and my "down there" hair is rather more extensive than I like!

I would say each time you get as long as from, say, waxing, but that not all the hairs will grow back .... the ones that were "active" at the time you zapped them should be killed permanent-ish. So if you keep using it regularly, in theory ultimately there won't be ANY growing back. I can't confirm this, but I have definitely noticed I haven't neeed to tackle my legs as often this summer!

I haven't tried it on face hair (not a problem for me), but as Annie says you do get specially shaped small pads for doing your face.

have used it! don't think I did it right though because epilating afterwards hurt and it shouldn't have. Stickiness of pads wore off very quickly - bit concerned. Did my moustache, and waxed afterwards (don't usually). YEEOUCH! Still sore a day later.

woe is me.

did you have it turned up high enough? Did you do it for long enough?

to make the pads sticky again, put a small amount of water on them ... a finger dipped in water is enough ... but eventually you have to get new pads .... which I haven't done yet, which is why I haven't used mine for a while!

Seriously tempted by this, looked at Boots web site. Must admit have been thinking about buying one for ages. Just need convincing that it really works, I suppose it would take quite a few months for any results to be obvious?

I just bought it! The instructions say that it takes about 8 weeks to catch all the hairs in the various cycles in order to be hair-free. At £40, that's cheap! I did a test patch on my leg, and it was a little freaky at first, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Ooooooooh, and before I forget, when you buy it online at boots.com, they send you a FREE goodie bag that has all of these great free samples. I'd say there are about 20 or so samples of really great stuff! I'm such a sucker...

Cheap as chips, I'd say.
