Before I was diagnosed with PCOS my mother booked me in for a couple of appointments at the laser hair removal clinic... well, it hurt like hell and some of the hair fell out, but 6 months later it's as thick and unattractive as before. I've had a hairy tummy since I can remember, and it's always stopped me from wearing anything that might expose my belly to the world. I'm self concious about it, even though I try not to be, but I really hate it. Suposedly you need a lot of sessions with the lasers, but it's so painful and doesn't seem to achieve anything that i'm reluctant to go for any more sessions. The woman claimed it should only take two or three goes, and that I should notice a difference after the second. but I really haven't. i still have to shave, I still watch the thick black hairs grow back, there has to be another option!
As it is, because the hair runs right up my stomach and to my chest I dont think it wise to remove it all. the only bit that really gets to me is the point just below my naval, where the hair is thick and long (almost like pubic hair... but too high!). Am I doomed to just keep shaving and hiding my stomach from the world? I already pluck my chin, and i'm told facial hair only gets worse with age. -_-
My question for you would be, how many treatments have you had? How far apart are the treatments? Did the tech tell you not to pluck in between treatments? This only makes the situation worse. I've had 7 treatments over a years time (they initially were scheduled 4-6 weeks apart) on my face. I had ALOT of facial hair. I'm now what they consider maintenance (hmmm..need to make another appointment). She said that I will have to come in every 3-6 months for a touch up. I had my last appointment in May, 2005. I would say that I have observed a 99% reduction in the facial hair. It took me to my 4th appointment before I REALLY noticed things were better. I saw some results at the 1st 3 appts, but it wasn't until the 4th that I would say I was at a 75% reduction. My tech told me that with a hormonal imbalance, the hair would never be totally gone (hence the imbalance). This is a process that needs your patience. Believe me, from a former "bearded lady," it's worth it! Good luck to you.

If your free testosterone levels are still in the male range, the hair will just come back. Many of us have beard growth that's in the male range -- it's almost "normal" for women with PCOS.
I have low overall testosterone.. and apparently most of that's free... -_-
Maybe I should find somewhere locally that does hair removal... that way I can actually have regular gaps between sessions and it wont be as difficult to arrange appointments. i'll look into it. I'm not as hairy as some woman, i know that... no beard at least. but it still effects your self image to know you aren't like all the "norm".
