Has anyone considered getting a hair transplant? They take the hair from the back of your head and implant it into the crown, or other areas of loss, as it is different hair and grows in thick - forever! I was going to have a consultation this week but was unable to make it so had to reschedule...just curious if anyone has looked into it or heard anything about it!
if I had the money..sure I'd do it..but considering its thousands and thousands and usually takes more then one treatment, I think until I win the lottery I wont have that option. Goodluck, let us know if you go through with it.
Hi strongernow, thanks for the reply. I know it is expensive...but was wondering aside from that if anyone has experienced it? or found it to be very painful - or just ineffective? I am a single 29 year old and therefore have saved a ton so financially i would be willing to invest if it was worth it. I have found it very difficult to find anyone, or sites, that have chat rooms to discuss hair transplants in women.
If you have diffuse loss (ie hair loss from all over hte head then you are not going to get any significant results) if your just losing from the top an dstill have thick hair all over you can get ok results ....
Do your research thoroughly ..

I've wondered about it too. I wonder if the hair is "safe" in its new placement. I go through cycles of hair loss in the same area, with occasional regrowth. I lose on the crown and a little more towards the left side. I'd love to hear any info about it.

I am losing just from the crown area and have thick hair everywhere else. I don't really notice excessive hair actually coming out, but it is definitely thinner in the crown area. Of course my friends say they don't notice it being thin, but my mom and sister are more forthright and say they do! i am able to style it well but it is personally bothersome. Being 29, i worry about how much worse it could get, My derm says it won't get much worse but that is just one opinion. My mom has really thin hair as well so i get it from her.
I am going to have a consultation in May with a doc who specializes in transplants so i will keep everyone posted. I have SO many questions about it - particularly about the pain during the procedure and if you should wait til after you have kids, etc.
Thanks for your feedback everyone - please keep posting if you know of anyone who has gone through this! THANKS!
Tennille
I did it once. Did it under local anesthesia. It wasn't painfull during the operation but was painfull afterwards but got painkillers for that. I had 400 hairs transplanted on the crown. I'm loosing hair on the crown and have thick hair all around. But It was like a drop in the ocean. I did notice a growth afterwards but didn't go again coz couldn't afford anymore treatments.
I spent 4000 US$ for that one treatment. If it's done properly hairs will grow back but the question is how many treatments do you have to have to cover it all? If you can't afford all the treatment there's no point of going through it. Gosh! I hate this stupid hair loss.
What about Shock hairloss .. this is quite comm,on after a transplant I would really be very wary about this I have heard some MIXED results .. Good luck in your decision ..

thank you all for your reply. I guess i need to do a lot more research. It is just really taking a toll on me having to worry about it. I know no one notices it as much as i do and no one can relate, (except my mom who also has thin hair). I feel like i look at people with thick hair and just have such envy and know they don't appreciate it at all. I guess i should be lucky that i don't have the weight issues or acne or other problems that i could have...but it is just really difficult to see thinning hair when you are only 29 years old. I am going to have the consultation next week with the hair transplant doc and plan to ask a ton of questions. I will keep you all posted!

hello... this is in reply to your post way back in 2006. i dunno if yo u get to see my msg. anyway, i m 25 yrs old and am have hairloss since 10 years already. I didnt know then that I had PCOS. I was only diagnosed in 2005 but now i have decided to take things in my hands. I am TTC as well and know that after baby, the hair will lose even more and i will b completely bald. i dunno what kind of hair loss i have. its most in the whole head, at the back my hair is ok and no one can believe i can have thin hair.. but u see in front, you will see so many bald patches, spots, its so embarassing. there is hair there but not enuff to fill up my scalp (like any normal woman).
Since it has been so many years since u had a transplant, can you please give me an update as to how your hair is now? did u see any positive change... also how old r u now? Your help will b greatly appreciated, i m planning to fly to my country for this purpose... thanks and GOD BLESS
