Question the hairiest bridesmaid- questions about waxing

I'm having problems with facial hair since going off BCP. I am in a wedding in 2 weeks and trying to decide what to do about hair removal. This is so embarassing and I am really starting to have a complex. I don't want to feel self-conscious in front of all those people.

I think I will have my upper lip waxed since I have had that done before and that area isn't that bad. I have this epilator special type of thing I may use on my chin or I may just have that waxed too.

My questions are about my sideburns. That is the area that has really become a problem for me. I always had little sideburns but they are expanding in a big way. What do I do? If I wax, will they come back coarse and then I will have to shave and wax that area forevermore?

I'm so glad I have this place to come to. I could never ask this question to the other bridesmaids or my friends because I am too embarrassed.
Thanks!

I've never thought waxing made hair coarser. It seems to make mine softer and sparser.

waxing CAN make hair coarser, or it can have no effect, or it can make hair appear lighter and sparser (though except on arms and legs, this effect is temporary, so it isn't REALLY sparser.) i guess it depends on your individual body type.

Waxing makes my hair softer and sparser too...after a couple of years of waxing my arms the growth slowed down. It's hard on the follicles to have hair yanked out all the time.

If you're sure you want to wax, then make sure you do it 5-7 days before the wedding -- the last thing you want is a reaction to the waxing.

Personally, I think you'd be far better shaving using a men's-type electric razor. Trim it right down first of all -- use a nail scissors if necessary -- then shave for the two or three days before the wedding and on the wedding morning. End of problem.

Hmm... I have been wondering the same thing. I have never waxed before, I need to but I am afraid of the upkeep.

this isn't neccesarily true. with methods that rip the hair out by the root, you are causing trauma to the tissue around the follicle. while it doesn't "change" the follicle, it CAN produce a reaction to the trauma and in some women this means coarser or darker hair. this usually only happens in hormone sensitive areas though. i've never heard of it happening on arms or legs.

What about getting it lasered? If you get it done now, you'll be relatively smooth for the wedding. Since it's just your face, it shouldn't be that expensive.

Thanks guys. I just read that sticky guide about hair and that was good. I don't think I can do laser or electrolysis due to money and I am ttc, starting clomid so not sure if that is a good idea.

My concern is stubble, I'm worried that if I shave I will create the need to constantly shave and have stubble. I have had my upper lip waxed before and the hair seems to be gone longer than with shaving and does not grow back in the form of stubble. I hope the same goes for my cheeks/sideburns.

I got my sideburns waxed when I was 19-20 (around there). It did make them come in weird afterwards, now they are more kinky looking! But I never got them waxed again. I am very fair, and my skin is very sensitive...it made the sides of my face swell for over a week. But it could have been that the wax was too hot. Too hot wax makes my eyebrows swell or my lip too.

It worked though, after the swelling went away, it was smooth there.

ohh sarah thanks for that warning. I'm going to have to do it soon then. I don't know, now I'm scared it will end up worse rather than better!!! This is so annoying to have to worry about this hair!

I think everyone is different...for all I know the hair could have started coming in like that when my PCOS got worse.

(Hi, this is my first post here, but I've been a member for a long time. Love this community! )

You could also try using a depilatory. I use Sally Hansen. I used to use the brush on stuff, but it's not sold at my local Walgreens anymore. Now I use the stuff that comes in a tube.

I just did it today, in fact. I use it on my upper lip and cheeks/sideburns. My hair there is pretty fine (although some of it's dark/black). I shave my chin/neck and corners of my upper lip....those areas are coarser and depilatory leaves more stubble than shaving. But for the cheeks the depilatory works well, and I've been using it for as long as I can remember....on my upper lip I've been using it since I was about 13 (I'm almost 37 now), and on my cheeks, close to 15 years now.

(And as a side note - taking spiro really helped to lighten and slow down the growth on my cheeks.)

I am very fair skinned and have very sensitive skin, the Sally hansen makes me break out in a nasty rash. I am glad it worked for you, but I wanted to mention the rash for anyone else who might have sensitive skin like me.

Yeah, that's a good point, thanks for posting it! I also have very fair skin (although it's not sensitive) and it gets a little pink/red for a short time after using it (usually clears up in an hour or two).
