Hi Ladies,
Its been 2 months that I have extreme hairloss .
my hair has got really thin and this is something new for since I used to have thick hair even my mom now at 49 ,also suffered from pcos has really thik hair.
I've done alot of blood works and recently found out that my progesterone levels are extremy low as well as estrogen, however estrogen wasn't as bad as progesterone.
I started taking progesterone pills couple of days ago due to not having AFfor 50 days.
I would like to know if anyone els has low levels of progesterone and suffering from hairloss.
Thanks

Yes, my hair has been thinning out a lot. Not fun when you're single and 32!! I had my hormones checked and I have very high testosterone and low estrogen and progesterone. The estrogen isn't quite as bad as the progesterone for me. I'm on bioidentical hormones for the progesterone only. I just finished my 2nd month. The sad thing is that my mom had her levels checked the same week I had mine, and her estrogen and progesterone levels were not much lower than mine--I was only a few tenths of a percent better than her, and she's 56 and in menopause! The report for me said that my prog level suggests I'm not ovulating, even though I have a monthly period--though it's somewhat irregular. Were you extremely irritable, too? Because I was--I haven't recognized myself in a couple of years. I do feel that the prog I'm taking has helped with the irritability a lot, I'm greatly improved, but I haven't noticed any improvement with the hairloss. Are you taking hormones to get into balance? Doesn't it suck that we lose hair where we actually want it, but grow hair where we don't want it? So unfair.

Hi. I have a few questions bc I am also dealing with some of this. How were you able to determine you are not ovulating? when did they test progestrone to determine this and how low was it? How irregular are your periods? Unfortunately no doc has been able to tell me whether I'm ovulating or not. Doesnt seem as if it would be too hard to figure out.
Well, I went to an endo who prefers to merge Eastern and Western medicine. I did the saliva testing for the hormones, which are supposed to be much better than blood tests. I don't remember what my numbers are, I don't have that available (I am at work right now, and I have no idea where my papers are b/c I just moved this weekend). But my prog and est were almost as low as my 56-year-old, post-menopausal mother. My testosterone was well within the range of normal for men. And the lab was able to determine that my prog was low enough to suggest an anovulatory period, meaning I don't ovulate. I was tested in May. And when I was younger my periods used to be more irregular, but I think it started getting better in my late 20s (I'm 32 now). Without hormones or bcp I am somewhat regular (except for 1 month last fall when I had 2 periods in one month, that never happened to me before, and in the spring when I was just a week late with my period).
I think the bcp is the killer.I always had some what IR periods but like 35 to max 40 days and I could've easlily induced it with vitex.now after being on bcps only for 3 months ,my body doesnt make the hormones by itself anymore,Af showed up really late about 11 days after I took 7 provera pills,I dont know what's happening to my body but I'm going on a natural route, provera was as bad as bcps,
I've found so many article regariding low progesterone levels and hair falls,I'm hoping that would be the case for me. kristen _are you on prometrium?any imrpovement or side effects maybe!

miss62, I just recently got blood work. High testosterone, high DHEA, low estrogen and even lower progesterone. I had a baby almost 6 months ago. My hair was thinning before my pregnancy, and now again even worse than before. I do think progesterone has something to do with it. I was thinking of starting some progesterone cream. Do you think there would be any side effects? Do you have any with the pill?

Hi,
you know the problem with us either having a baby or getting off the pill is that we dont make enough fermale hormones(estrogen+progesterone) afterwards.
I'm just doing a bit better, infact I'm scared to tell anyone.still shedding but instead of 300 is almost 80-100 in the shower.
I tried progesterone cream by emerita for 8 days and I couldnt believe it .I'm spotting today after 50 days.
my mood is much better since my P is up.I can finally sleep at night and my temp is high.so I know for a fact that my progesterone was way too low.also I was drinking fennel tea for estrogen.
I'm also using Nioxin fir the last 2 weeks .its great, first I thought it would be a waste of money but trust me it works.
I just have to wait and see if I can keep the shedding down while I'm on my period.that would be the biggest challenge for me.
for the side effects...I had none with emerita cream but I had mild bloating and breast pain when I tried medroxy progesterone pills last month.
try the cream first if the progeterone is the concern.but you need to control your T levels too.progesterone would help but it wont lower your T.
I had normal levels of T so I knew my problem was low levels of female hormones.
