I remember seeing a segment on HGTV -a couple of years ago-- which demonstrated hosting ideas on a budget. One such idea was offering a "toppings bar" for hamburgers aside from the ordinary relish, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, etc. Does anyone know where I may find some ideas for toppings?

The hamburger bar is a good idea. I might use that at some point in the future. I enjoy having my family over for lunch or dinner...I just hate cleaning the house beforehand.
I don't eat beef but am so glad there are vegetarian options out there. I love hamburgers so much my brother and sister used to call me Wimpy (from Popeye) when we were kids. "I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." But I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my burger toppings. Mayo, mustard, ketchup, cheese, onion, and pickles.

It seems every time I contemplate buying beef another recall is announced. The problem for DS & me is the cheese - we're both allergic to casein which is the protein in cow's milk. Hence, we find a lot of substitutes. Thanks, again, for the great link!

An easy idea for cleanup is using muffin pans to put the toppings in and place them on the table. That way, you don't have lots of different bowls and containers sitting around! (if this is previously posted, please forgive me...sometimes I don't read the entire thread!)

This way I can put the lids to the bowls back on them --if there are leftovers-- & put them into the fridge OR just throw them into the dishwasher. Pretty simple for me. But thanks for the muffin pan idea --I've used these for holding little craft 'stuff' when making a those mom-son crafty things.

Melted chocolate (dark, milk and possibly white)
Different melted cheeses (spicy nacho flavor, cheddar, etc.)
Different mustards (basic, spicy, etc.)
Sea salt (you can offer unsalted, as well as salted pretzels)
I've also had whole wheat pretzels with cinnamon as a low carb, low fat option, but it's just not the same as a good old regular pretzel with cheese.
Around here burgers come with some odd (according to DH) toppings including:
Mustard, chili, onions and slaw ("all the way") or lettuce, tomato and mayo ("with everything"). I also like grilled onions as a topping.

I also offered 4 different kinds of cheese from the deli (Munster, Swiss, American, & mild Cheddar) plus the goat's milk cheese I found at Sam's Club. It was a trio package of plain, peppered flavored, & herb flavored. The red onion jam & goat's milk cheese on my burger was SOOOOOoooo good! Then there was the usual ketchup, mustard, pickles, & relish. I even put out some deli mustard & habenaro mustard. I also made a black bean hummus that many used as dip with the chips & some even put a little on their burgers.
