Default Hammersmith Hospital

Is anyone having or has had treatment at the Hammersmith hospital (Mr Trew in particular). Just wondered how you found it.

This is not a PCOS related treatment but a rant about that place. My Grandad was transferred to Hammersmith Hospital as it was supposidly better but the level of service and hygeine was disgusting. It was before all this 'superbug' business really came into the media quite a number of years ago. He wasn't life threateningly ill when he went in but contracted 'superbugs' after staying there, I believe through neglect, they transferred him straight to a hospice and he passed away I hate that ****hole! I hope they have improved...

This was a long time ago, over 10 years, sorry to be so negative and I'm sure their service has improved in this time.

I was also wondering, have you seen this doctor before?

I was just thinking of asking to be referred to Mr Trew as I have heard him described as "the best fertility specialist....". I know that he treated Jools Oliver but that's about it.

I worked at Hammersmith Hospital from 1999 - 2001 as evening bed manager. I don't recall a Mr Trew there then, but it is a while back and I can't remember half of the Consultants.

I have looked him up and he specialises in Fibroid surgery, IVF, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, which you probably already knew. If you do go to see him and have to be admitted I would imagine that you would actually be admitted into Queen Charlottes Hospital (which is now next to Hammersmith Hospital), and was completed in 2000/2001. I only had dealings with the Gynae ward in there, and it is a very good centre.

Shellie, sorry to hear about your grandad and his experience at the hospital. I have worked in three hospitals and the worst thing that could have happened was when they contracted out the cleaning services, the laundry services etc.... when I did my nurse training back in 83 everything was run by the hospital, and I never remember MRSA being a problem back then. I know that when I was at hammersmith the domestic supervisors had a hell of a job with the cleaning staff, and often I would see them doing the cleaning again because it wasnt done properly or they didnt have enough cleaning staff to do the job. I ended up a patient on the Cardio ward when I was working there, and it appeared fairly clean whilst I was in there.

Everybody has staph on their skin and it seems to cause no major problems. However if it gets inside the body, for instance under the skin or into the lungs, it can cause infections such as boils or pneumonia. Individuals who carry this organism are usually totally healthy, have no problems whatever and are considered simply to be carriers of the organism.

I read Jools Oliver's book and she thinks extremely highly of him....then again i suppose she would (she got pregnant afterall!!!). But I have to say that I think there are lots of really great consultants out there and I'm sure your GP would be able to recommend someone good.

Good luck anyway - would love to hear an update if you do get referred to him.
