Today she called me and told me one woke up with Hand Foot and Mouth... She felt so bad. She didn't know. One of them woke up this morning with it. I know she is telling the truth. I didn't see anything on the boys.. I told her not to worry..
I called the OB and he said to call if I show signs.
Anyone ever have it... or know the effect on me and the baby.

I'm not sure how it affects pregnancy but the pedi did say that almost every adult has had it at some point in time and once you get it you can't get it again. Like I said though, I'm not sure how it would affect a pregnancy.

"There is some evidence that infection during pregnancy may cause miscarriage and poor growth of the unborn baby in some cases, but this seems to be rare."
this is from the nhs website in the uk
"Pregnancy and hand, foot and mouth disease
If you are pregnant, the risk of hand, foot and mouth disease affecting you, or your baby is very low. However, if you develop the disease just before giving birth, there is a 65% chance you may pass it to your baby Babies born with hand, foot and mouth disease will usually only experience mild symptoms. However, in severe cases it can cause infection of the liver and heart. Infection of the major organs is potentially fatal. The risk of this type of infection is much higher in newborns who are two weeks old, or less.
There is also some evidence to suggest that, in very rare cases, catching hand, foot and mouth disease during your pregnancy may result in miscarriage. The risk of this happening is extremely small, but it is always best for you to contact your GP if you suspect you may have developed the condition during your pregnancy.
Although the risk of getting hand, foot and mouth disease while pregnant is low, it is best to avoid direct contact with anyone who has the condition in order to reduce the risk further. "
So it looks like u should be ok just keep an eye on any symptoms.

You don't have to have sores on your hands and feet and mouth to have it. My dd had it with only sores in her mouth (way back on her throat). NOthing on hands and feet. She had a fever with it and just felt rotten for a while. Takes a while to shake it. By the time sores are present, you aren't even contagious anymore....which is why it spreads so easily.
I would think you are at a low risk for it. You'll know if you feel like crud in a couple of days...it's probably that. There isn't anything they do for coxackie virus.....it has to run it's course. I bet you don't get it.....

My Mood: Points: 2,630.29 Bank: 6,747.80 Total Points: 9,378.09 | I had it several years ago I got it from a child I babysat. I inadvertently ate a lollipop after her and got infected. I only got sores in my mouth, but they hurt like hell. I think the only way you can get it is if you come in contact with one of the sores or eat or drink after the infected party. I would wipe down the house or anything the child could have touched with chlorax wipes.

Anyone ever have it... or know the effect on me and the baby. | Dont' worry. My son had this last month (when I was about 20-22 weeks prego) and I was fine. It never affected me. Apparently it's much more prevalent in toddlers plus it's not one of those diseases that are dangerous to the fetus. Good luck. |
