a handy schedule for starting metformin my RE gave me a schedule for how to increase your metformin dose when she doubled mine from 1000mg to 2000mg. i thought it might be helpful for some of you.
"if you are having any stomach upset, bloating, or diarrhea, wait until theese resolve before increasing your dose. your body should get used to theese side effects with time. Metformin comes in 500mg tablets so 250mg is 1/2 a tablet, 750mg is one and a half and 1000mg is two tablets"
week 1: breakfast:0 dinner:250mg
week 2: breakfast:250mg dinner:250mg
week 3: breakfast:250mg dinner:500mg
week 4: breakfast:500mg dinner:500mg
week 5: breakfast:500mg dinner:750mg
week 6: breakfast:750mg dinner:750mg
week 7: breakfast:750mg dinner:1000mg
week 8: breakfast:1000mg dinner:1000mg
OR if you doctor wants you taking it 3x a day:
