Default Has acne gotten worse for anyone after starting Met?

I think I am about to lose my mind because I swear the Metformin is making my skin worse and worse. I see all these threads praising the effects of Met on their skin but I have yet to see that improvement and worse, I think it is making my skin break even more, with the really nasty whiteheads that are very hormonal. I am taking two pretty intense acne meds, but I have never seen my face this bad before, and I just want to cry all day long, it's so embarrassing since I am turning 25 next week and shouldn't I get a break from acne now? I feel like quitting Met but then I am afraid to since maybe then my period will never come back and it's just so awful so if any of you out there have a similar experience or any advice I'd really appreciate it!!!!

Hi,

I was taking metformin and I have to say that it did make my acne worse, among many other things! I absoutley swear by clinique clear blemish gel, it dries up those nasty spots in a couple of days. Also if you get spots in other areas, I tend to get them under my arms, clinique back and chest spray has been my life saver for that!

Unfortunately I had to stop taking metformin as it upset my tummy soooo badly, but it really is a fantastic treatment for pcos, and my periods were so regular when I was on it. I would advise you to stick with it if poss and hopefully your skin will begin to clear up....

Good Luck!

M xxx

Default Met n Acne

Luckily after taking metformin for awhile my acne is starting to clear up, i'm only on 500mg at this time. My next appointment with the doc is in May. The acne hasent totally cleared up but i'm wondering if the mg's make a difference?

(i had 10mg in my first post - lol was looking at the wrong perscription - time for glasses too)

I started met about a month ago and have been at full dose for less than a week and my acne is worse. I read some where that this should be temporary so i hope that it clears soon.

How long have you been on it?

I started Met in mid-January. I started at 500, then 1000, then 1500, and now I am up to 2000 which is where I am going to stop. I haven't been dieting yet, so maybe that would help things along, but it's weird since all my hormones are normalizing since I started Met, but my skin is getting worse, and periods are still sporadic. Thank you for letting me know that I am not the only one having issues with Met.
