Question Has anybody tried Mercilon or Marvelon (desogen)? Did they help?

Hello everybody,

This seems a little long, so i do apologise in advance.

I'm having a bad time of it right now. I've just begun my 3rd month of Yasmin and feel rubbish. Had the most painful and debilitating AF ever. My acne is awful, and only seems to get worse. I'm looking into bi-cycling my packs this time, in the hope that it will help. I feel very down.

Just a bit of history, to let you know why i'm asking the question.. (ok, more than a bit, but necessary)...

I was diagnosed in Jan this year, after showing the symptoms since i was about 11 when my periods began! Was slim as a kid but between 12-14 my weight crept up and i was quite chunky for a few years...anyway, got put on Dianette aged 16 to help my acne but gained even more weight, then a doctor changed this to Microgynon and my sin got worse, greasy hair, weight... So, went back and complained about this, and was put on Marvelon (Desogen in US). FINALLY! Everything seemed to get better! My skin cleared up, periods were ok, I LOST ALL THAT EXCESS WEIGHT!!!! I felt fantastic, and i wasn't even having to try that hard.

Ok, so fast forward 1 and a half years and things are great, i'm at my lowest weight ever (9st 4) and really feel fantastic. I had been getting lots of "under the weather" phases but these had gone too. Suddenly I get a bad "dermatitis infection" on my face, accompanied by what seemed like an awful flu-type virus which knocked me for 6! Got diagnosed with cystic acne. Then gained 2 stone in about 3 months...told to come off Marvelon to see i my body would correct itself. Got worse. Eventually (year later) got listened to and referred for ultrasound and to see gynae. Instantly diagnosed. Phew.

So, tried dianette again with negative results. Now on Yasmin but don't feel good and struggling with weight unless i eat nothing and drink loads of water! But that's not good. So, my gynae suggested before i went on yasmin that if it doesn't work, i can try marvelon again. I am so tempted, but also very scared. Has anybody had a similar experience to mine? Have you tried Marvelon or Mercilon (a similar BCP) and succeeded? Please let me know what has or hasn't helped you as i'm really at a low point and don't know what to do. Would marvelon help me again? Or is my pcos just too strong? My BMI right now is 28-29.

Thank you xx

Thanks Eva,

I've never had high blood pressure, maybe if you are prone to it certain pills are no good?

I'm not sure what to do. Give Yasmin a chance or ask to try Marvelon again?

Anybody out there had positive results with Marvelon(Desogen) or Mercilon? I think the oestroen in mercilon is a little lower than in marvelon, can't quite remember...

Hi,

I've just started taking mercilon (With spiro), it's only been about a week, so I can't tell you much about it just yet!

I was on Yasmin for about 1.5 years, and it didn't really help my acne all that much. moreover, i actually put on about a stone, which i promptly lost as soon as I came off it.

I was advised by both the endo and dermo that i'm seeing that mercilon is a hair and skin friendly pill, albeit not as good as yasmin.

I'll keep you updated!

Hello,

Yes please do keepme updated, i'd like to know how you get on with it. My skin is awful. Just constantly feeling ill, bad headaches, migraines, spots and sharp/dull/spikey pains in my ovary area. It doesn't seem right. I'm going to try and get an appointment with my gynae, because this doesn't seem good. Plus, i'm sooooooooooo hungry all the time, which isn't how i used to be. I just want to be slim again and look healthy and feel happy. I know many women here will understand that.

I read on another thread about a woman who kept getting sinus infections, trouble with viral infections like ear, nose and throat..i am really prone to that, in fact today it's started again. If people don't know about my condition, they probably just assume i don't care about my health. It's not fair really.

I need to get it under control!!

Best wishes xx
