Default Has anyone come off Lexapro?

Lexapro has helped with my anxiety but I just can't tolerate the side effects anymore.
I'm planning to reduce it from tomorrow. Has anyone come off this drug? Any tips?!?
I'm scared!!

Yes I went off Lex. I went to 1 every other day then half. It was Ok coming off for me but a few months later I realized I still needed something so I am on Celexa now and I don't really notice any side effects. I just hate taking pills everyday. I always think Oh I'm better let me stop and then I am not better and it makes it worse. My Dr made me promise not to miss a day and I haven't. Good Luck!

When I've stopped taking it I didn't notice any problems. I don't have side effects from it, though.

I had no problems coming off Lexapro I was on 10mg a day. I would suggest if you are on a higher dose to cut it for a week and keep cutting it until you feel you can come off of it. GL! It may be helpful to talk to your dr about it also and he might be able to put you on another pill with out skipping any anti-anxiety/depression pills that way you shouldn't get any withdrawal if that is what you want to do (find another pill). Good Luck and be careful

I went off cold turkey, no problems, but it's probably better to taper down.

Wow, good to hear some positive experiences - every internet search I've done on this subject has been one horror story after the next, so it's good to know it's not always like that!
I'm on 7.5mg at the mo, down from 10. I was experiencing SEVERE exhaustion to the point where I could barely function a lot of the time, and I've noticed an immediate imorovement in that already. I might see how my symptoms are when I get down to 5mg and review the situation from there.

Thanks everyone!

Are you taking your lexapro in the morning or evening? I am on lexapro and started out taking it in the evening for me I couldn't sleep at all, so they told me to switch to the morning. I did and now my insomnia is gone. My NP said that some people it makes them very tired and that is why she wanted me to start it at night. If you are not taking it at night try that and see if it helps with the side effect of exhaustion.
I would taper off slowly though b/c you don't want to shock your brain or body. GL and let us know how it goes.
