I went off met for a week or so. I just couldnt make myself take it.
I needed a break. I am so sick of having diarhea. I am trying to get back on it, but find myself skipping doses....
Does anyone else have this problem?
I need some motivation here!
I wish I could motivate you, but ... I'm the same way. When I was on it at any dose higher than 1000mg, I'd throw up as soon as I ate or drank anything. I'd skip doses, too. I just couldn't even think about taking them. Unfortunely, my dr. wants me to go back on them since I'm TTC. (I stopped because I was pg but I miscarried.) I'm hoping for an alternative when I go Friday morning to the dr's. I know this won't help motivate you, but at least you know your not alone.

The diarrhoea is not my worst problem(I do get it but not as bad as when I first went on Met - although I am only on 500mg at the moment) its the really bloated feeling and the indigestion type pain I get after I eat a main meal that I find awful, I have been tempted to miss my dose the day after - just so I can enjoy a good meal and the rest of the evening!
I have read elsewhere on this site that if you take it at a different time and 'during' your meal then this should help relieve the diarrhoea. I have a dodgy tummy at the best of times and diarrhoea is one of the things I contend with on a daily basis (this is probably why it doesn't bother me so much now that I am on Met - I must be used to it!!) anyway I was given an anti-spasmodic drug called Mebeverine which I take 20 minutes before every meal - I have found it helpful. maybe you should ask your doctor if you can try it.
Please try and stay on the Met, think about it - try and weigh up the pro's and con's, for example;
con = diarrhoea/pro = you could end up having a lovely baby if you persevere.
you keep on going and decide for yourself whether it's worth it! let me know how you get on.

Rottymom,
What dosage did you start off on and how much are you supposed to be on now?
Reason I am asking is b/c my Dr. started me off on a very small dosage (he was rather reluctant to give it to me at all).
I started on 500mg/day... and didn't go up to 750mg/day for 2 months!
Every 2 months it was increased a little bit. Now i'm on 2000mg/day.
My side affects are really minimal. Maybe you started on too high of a dose?
...Maybe i was just lucky.
MaLee...have you looked into taking MET while you're pregnant?
I've read that you can lower your chances of misscarriage if you stay on MET (at least for the first trimester).
I can't remember the site where I found the info but I'll look for it if your interested.
I even took it to my Dr. and by the time all was said and done he agreed to keep me on it WHEN (wishful thinking) I get PG.
Fiona... how did you get your pic in your signature like that?

Yes we all go through skipping doses at one time or another.
Here are a few ideas,
Try taking your GlucXR 1 hr before dinner. Or two hrs after.
They more carbs you consume the more trouble you will have.
So pick carbs carefully.
Dairy products can cause alot of dificulty.
Don't up your dose untill you have the current dose under control.
Eat smaller meals. 4 times a day.
Eat some kind of protein when you have high carb foods.
Even if you eat a string cheese, then have a sm bowl of icecream.
If you know you will be having alcohol or big meal(party the next day) Then I would say skip that nights dose. Or you can get sick the day after the party.
Please remember that you can't eat anything while on met/Gluc.
Some think it is a miracle pill that will melt the weight off.
IT WON"T! You have to cut back, change certain foods and give up others all together. Try not to stress, take it one battle at a time.
Good Luck,
Patty
