Just wondering.... I think I would feel too guilty.

As far as I am aware, points cannot be stolen if they are banked. You do have to remove them from the bank in order to spend them.

When you are reading posts, look at the left column of user profile information. Somewhere there it should give a point total (I see you have ~7k pts) -- you get those points by posting, reading and giving feedback/reputation, in general. You can also get points by playing the lottery. Click the vbPlaza link to see what can be done with your points -- they are not necessary to post or interact here on SC, but are another level to play with.
