since starting BCPs? I have felt completely not myself since starting Loestrin24 FE back in 2006 when I was diagnosed with PCOS. I feel that it was just a quick fix to regulate my period. I switched to Yaz in the summer and I still feel like I'm this emotional mess. What other options are there? I do get a period on my own without BCP's but it's so irregular. Could I take something like Provera to make sure I get a period on a regular cycle? I am not on any other medication besides Yaz. I just feel like I was given this diagnosis and thrown out with the pills on my own.
You're not alone here. Many cysters experience mood disorders on BCP's. I was a total mess, and finally had to stop, before I went totally crazy.
My reaction to the pill was so negative that it resulted in my decision to treat my pcos with drastic lifestyle changes. Strict diet and LOTS of exericse became my pill. It worked great!
Good luck finding something that works for you.

I was put on bcp to regulate my periods as well. I took them for 10 years before my new awesome doctor told me to get off of them. I felt like a completely different person! Food tasted better, I felt more alert and I had a sexual appetite!
My doctor put me on Met and it made a world of difference. Oh yeah and the diet and exercise.
Dispite all of these great changes my doctor said I would not be able to concieve on my own, well I got knocked up with out trying. She is still pretty schocked.
Just arm yourself with knowledge and ask your doctor what other things you can try to improve your health.

Thanks so much for the replies. For now, I've stopped taking them. I have an endocrinologist appt Feb 11th and I will see what he says. I am being tested for hypothyroidism and am hoping he'll put me on Met. I have heard so many good things about Met. I need my energy back so I can force myself to work out and eat better. I need the oomph. I am sick of feeling like this.
I've noticed I have been more emotional and irritable too while on the generic Birth Control for Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. I have all the symptoms of PCOS, but am at a healthy weight and exercise often. My endo is taking me off the BCPs to do a test for Cushings before formerly diagnosing the PCOS. He is giving me Provera for a couple of months to try to jump start the periods. However, I never experienced hair loss issues until I started the Ortho. Before the birth control pills, I just had the excess hair growth, extra weight only in the abdominal area, fatigue, and super irregular menstrual periods. I was put on birth control pills without having any of my hormones tested last April. Then I found out recently my testosterone level was a 78 which my endo said is elevated but nothing to worry about? Seems kinda high to me?
I'm completely scared of coming off the pill because I don't want to feel emotional anymore, but I'm terrified of even more hair loss. It's not bad to the point of bald spots, but it's a lot thinner than it used to be. Is there anything I can do to try to help the hair loss while getting off the pill like vitamins or anything?
I'm not too thrilled that I'll have to go back on the birth control added with Spiro after all the tests if Cushings is ruled out since then it will be PCOS for sure. Has anyone had bad experiences with Ortho but found a better birth control to help the hair loss/facial hair? I've read that the Ortho is one of the best androgen lowering birth controls.
