Default has anyone had bfp with slow releasing metformin

hi ladies

I'm currently taking 1000 slow releasing metformin and just wondering if anyone has had success with achieving a BfP with this. I currently weight 174lbs and trying loose weight, just wondering if any has had any success.

thanks
Selina

Hi Selina,

I got my BFP about 2 months after starting 1,500mg of the extended release met. The only thing is that about 6 months prior to that, I was on 2,500 mg of regular met and lost about 30lbs. on it. I had started to gain a bit of that weight back when I was put on the XR version..I don't know if that might have had something to do with it. I hope this helps and you get your BFP soon!!

hi Hkgrl7

So do you think I would have more success with going on the normal Metformin?? As I don't really seem to losing any weight all with this slow releasing metformin. Also I'm been on it for 7 weeks and still waitng for Af to arrive.

Hi Selina,

There is kind of a debate on whether or not the XR version makes you lose weight like the regular met and the general consensus is that regular met does seem to make you lose weight faster....talk to your dr. about it because regular met also has A LOT more side effects (in my opinion). Perhaps your dr. will recommend increasing your dose of the XR version and seeing if that works first? As you're taking 1,000 mg, I would speak to your dr. and ask about raising the dose a bit...I don't want to seem like I'm giving you medical advice and obviously this is something that a medical prof. need to advise you on but the above are just a few ideas.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to try and answer them (to the best of my non-medical ability!!)

Hi hkgrl

I've been on the regular metformin in the past this is why I'm on the Slow releasing version. I couldn't tolerate the side affects of regular metformin. I will speak to doctor about increasing my dosage to maybe 1500mg and see if that helps as still waiting for my period to arrive and i'm on my 45CD. Just wondering how did you take your metformin becuase at the moment i'm taking 2tabs of 500mg at night. when i go up i was going to start taking 1 in the morning and 2 at night

Both of my successful pregnancies were conceived while I was taking 2,000mg of met XR. I took 1,000 mg in the morning and 1,000mg after dinner.

When I was on plain glucophage I conceived once, but they had me immediately stop the glucophage and I misscarried the next day. To me using the generic metformin XR was the way to go. They kept me on it through both pregnancies.

Hi,

I also conceived on Met XR (1500mg). I am 5'4" and weighed about 172 at that time. However, I had regular AF, but could not conceive for 2 yrs till I was put on Met.

I conceived after 4 months of being on 1500mg Met ER. We weren't trying the first two months. We tried the third month but timed it poorly, I really didn't expect to see a bfp that month. The 4th month was it for us. I am 5'2 and currently weigh 235lbs. When I started the met I was 255lbs. I gradually lost 10lbs before getting pg. I've lost an additional 10lbs but I think that is more to the m/s than the met.

Hi Ladies,

Many thanks for your replies it makes me feel my postive about things now as I've just weighted myself this morning I'm 170.8lbs which is about 12.3st I'm 5'2 in height as well. I'm going to go to the doctor and get them to up my dosage to 1500mg I've only been on metformin for 8weeks by the end of this week so I guess I have to give it time to work.

Has any of your ladies had irregular periods before starting metformin as I do so I feeling like maybe slow releasing metformin will take longer to work or maybe my dosage is still to low??? Please give me some advice ??

thanks
Selina

I just started taking slow releasing metaformin 1000mg a day. Im 5'10 and weigh 170 so i am a little overweight but not too bad. I am hoping that it works for me as well. I been on it since Dec 7th. I got af on Dec 14th but that is because i used provera. So i am hoping i either get a bfp soon or af when its suppose to arrive. Keep me posted.

hi Crying out for you

After the first week of starting the slow releasing metformin I got 6-7 days AF but was very light then I had a few spotting on the CD 22 thought I was pregnant but I did a test it was negative. So now I am on CD46 and still awaiting for a AF. I think I'm going to up my dosage from tomorrow to 1500mg, since I'm getting a new supplier of my lovely metformin tomorrow night.
I'm going to start taking 1 500mg in the morning and 2 500mg at night.

I let you know what happens

Selina
