Default Has anyone had laser hair removal done on their face?

Hi. I'd like to check into getting my facial hair (especially on my chin) removed with laser treatments. Has anyone had this done? Was it successful for you? How many treatments did it take? What's the ballpark figure on cost?

Thanks so much for any feedback.

I have had the EpiLight laser hair removal done to my upper lip 5 times, and it has not worked once! For just the lip area, it cost $50 each time, and takes 2 minutes tops. For a larger area, it costs around $150 for 15 minutes. Definitely not worth it. I've tried it on my abdomen too, and it has not worked. I'd wait until something better comes along!

Default laser hair removal

Laser Hair removal worked amazingly for me on my chin. It took 7 times at $139.00 Canadian. I'm not sure of the type of laser (sorry), but the dermatologist told me the Softlight ones do not work well. Its not completely gone, but reduced by like 85 percent, which I think is well worth it. I had it pretty bad too before and now I just need to maintain it every six months.

I agree with Sillychick - I had similar results. I think it was an alexandrite (?) or ruby laser - something like that. Also had a Softlight treatment once that did nothing

I had laser done last summer on my chin. I don't remember for sure, but I think it cost about $600 which included 3 treatments and 3 test treatments. They charged by the area covered, not by the area. I have a little regrowth that I'm touching up with electrolysis but it's not nearly as dark as it was and not as many hairs either.
For me, I'm glad I spent the money.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you don't have your hormones in control the hair will grow back. The best thing to do in my opinion would be to get your testosterone levels in check (if they aren't already) and THEN do your hair removal.

Question

I have an appt. this week with a dermatologist for check into the laser hair removal. Any suggestions on questions I should ask her?

Also, what is a testosterone normal range? Mine was 72 the last time it was checked and I don't want to waste money on laser if they are normal. What meds will lower the testosterone levels?

Thanks,
Tara

Exclamation normal levels

Hi Tara. I believe the normal levels of Test. are around 50 so if this is true then you are still a little high. I, too, have considered laser, but am working on getting my hormones balanced first. Everyone seems to have the same message that it is best to have balance first for better results. Good luck!

hi,

i am considering laser hair removal - i have an appointment next month on my birthday - considering it my birthday present to myself!

which hormones need to be balanced for the treatment to be effective? my free testosterone have always been on the normal range. it's my total testosterone that appears to be slightly elevated in just one blood test.

for those whose laser treatment worked, may i ask which medication you are taking? i was taking aldactone but i decided to get off it. i'm medication free right now but trying yoga and eating well (no refined sugars) to see if that will help.

thanks,
bandanna

Thumbs up laser hair removal

I had laser hair removal done on my face, bikini area, and underarms. I initially went in to just do my face (chin, lip, and neck) because I was getting really coarse black hairs there due to PCOS. I was soooo pleased with the results that I then decided to do everything else.

It costs me about $75 US for each visit to do my face and neck, or both underarms, or bikini area. I have only had to do 2 treatments on my face and 3 treatments each on my underarms and bikini area. I have the blonde hairs on my face still (laser does not work on blonde, but you probably already knew that), but I have not had to shave under my arms or bikini area since the last time I lasered (about 1 month). This is WONDERFUL for me because I have very sensitive skin broke out really bad when I shaved.

I would recomend it to anyone, PCOS or not. Now I feel relieved to be rid of at least one of my PCOS symptoms, which was facial hair! I just can't wait until they find a way to laser blonde hair.

Here is my experience so far:
Ive had one treatment to chin and upper lip. The blonde hairs never fell out but all the black ones did. No black ones came back yet and its been 4 weeks. The upper lip has come back in finer and the corners don't seem to have come back at all yet. Im anxious for the next tx in 4 more weeks. I'm going to do arms and upper thighs too. So far I feel confident about it.

Cool

I have used both the gentle-lase and epilight lasers. I think that the gentle-lase laser did a better job, but that is just me. The epilight worked too, but the hair did not fall out as soon (and it was much more uncomfortable). Hope this helps.

I had laser on my chin and I believe that it made it worse.
Also you should know that I've done a lot of research and
laser hair removal has approved by the FDA to permantley
REDUCE hair. I have been having electroylsis for about a year and a half and have had amazing results. If I were you I would have electrolysis not laser and make sure that the type of electrolysis is the blend method. Also electroylsis has been approved by the FDA to PERMANTLEY REMOVE hair.
What ever you decide good luck.
