I have moderate Dysplaisa and have to have the Loop done on April 5th. I'm so scared. They told me they are going to inject anestetic into my cervics and then use electric current to take the cells off. I'm really scared. How long does it take? Does it hurt a lot?
Thanks,
Tera

I was dx with severe displaisia in 2002. I had to have the leep done in the hospital under general anesthesia. I had a real badbleeding episode in the ob/gyn office during a colsposcopy (sorry for spelling). So I can't tell you how it felt during, but recovery the day of and day after was uncomfortable. Goodluck.

I had a LEEP about a year ago. With mine they injected a numbing adjent into my cervix and then some dye. It's wasn't painful, just uncomfortable. They made me watch it on a big TV screen while they were doing it. ANyway, It shouldn't be that bad, just take it easy for a few days afterwards.

Tara,
I had a Leep done in 2001. It was done in the operating room under general anesthesia. I had some problems in the office during the colposcopy and biopsies. I can't tell you about the procedure, but afterwards I had some cramping for a day or two. Good Luck
I had this done a long time ago (over ten years) and what I remember is that it is set up similarly to a pap smear and basically that is what you will feel, the speculum, etc. Just make sure to take somebody with you to drive home because it is uncomfortable. Good luck to you and let us know how you did!
I had the LEEP done last year. I was wide awake, and not able to take the pain med they had for me because I am allergic to IB Profen. So they inject a needle and numb where they are going to remove the cells. I didn 't feel anything at first. But they went too deep and I felt everything. Quite honestly it was horrible. It is different for everyone. But my doctor didn't have steady enough hands I guess. They use this thing that sounds like a vacum cleaner. And you cannot move at all when it is on. It could be very bad if you do. I was in a lot of pain while it was being done, but afterwards, I was not too bad. Just get lots of rest, as one other person said already. I researched the net and found lots of info before I had the procedure. I hope this was helpful. Love and luck! Kristen

I don't know about the LEEP, but in '99 I was dx w/ with mod to sev dysplasia and had the cervical conization done under general anesthesia. Post surg there was some pain and definetly cramping and bleeding that lasted for a few days. Other than that it wasn't horrible. I hope that your procedure goes just as smooth and you have a speedy recovery!
I had a LEEP & colposcopy done several months ago when my results from a pap smear came back abnormal. It ended up being a lesion in my cervix that was treated with medication & thank goodness closed as my recent pap came back normal.
I don't mean to scare you but I also don't want to lie either. My experience was awful & it hurt like hell. My gyn & the nurse were so wonderful and comforting but I was literally fighting back tears. I needed help getting dressed afterwards and thank goodness my FI and Mom were with me that day. We ended up taking a cab home because I couldn't walk. It also hurt when I coughed and or sneezed, but after about 4 hrs or so the pain began to decrease. Please also keep in mind that not all women are the same and the pain or lack there of can vary from woman to woman. I also had no medication & was wide awake throughout the entire procedure. I hope all goes well & as pain free as possible for you...please keep us posted. Take care & many blessings
I had a leep done a few years ago and it was a horrible experience for me. I ended up with such a severe infection that I ended up in the hospital getting an I.V. of antibiotics.
It was painful and since then I have had doctors tell me that I have had a hack job done to my cervix.(this was a very qualified doctor that preformed the procedure)
My mom said that every woman that came out of the procedure room was walking funny so I am obvously not the only one to experience pain. A few months later my mom had to have dysplasia removed from her cervix, they opted to freeze it and she walked out fine and had no problems.
If I were to do it all over again I would definately opt for one of the other procedures.
Good Luck!!
