Default Has anyone had an ovary/both ovaries removed?

This is the option I have been offered by my Dr.

I haven't researched it yet but my initial reaction was a loud "NO" It seems to me that perhaps I would be simply swapping one set of problems for another and also being not only an ovary problem I'm not sure it would really help.

So I was wondering........... has anyone else gone down this route and how did it affect their PCOS???

Well. I haven't had ovaries removed, but I've had my tubes tied, that made the PCOS worse, so I've got to imagine if you got ovaries removed it would definitely give you another set of problems

jumping on to see if anyone will respond to this. I asked my OB to remove my ovaries when I had my twins this summer since "they arent functional anyway" and she told me that even though it appears they arent doing anything taking them out would bring about worse things and refused to do it. I still would like them out- uterus and all- just to end any chances of endometrial CA and PCOS related diseases.

The ovaries are the main source of female hormones

Just wanted to share that I wasn't actyally diagnosed with PCOS until after I'd had a hysterectomy and both my ovaries removed. My gyn thought this would help with my symptoms but it did nothing to lower my androgens. It did help with the pain and heavy bleeding and PMS problems but I now wonder if they could have been dealt with differently if I'd known about PCOS. I don't really regret having the surgery but it does bring with it a whole other set of hormone issues (I am on replacement therapy & definitely couldn't function without it) and I know there are a lot of women who have their ovaries removed only to have serious regrets afterwards, they never feel right again it seems. There is a web site hystersisters.com where you can look at other women's experiences with having their ovaries removed and see what they have to say. Before anyone makes a decision like this I would suggest going to this web site and becoming really informed about what some women actually experience (there are lots of positive reports too.)
