My DH had his taken out last year and he had alot of problem waking up, but the surgery went just fine. The only thing is if he eats too much or eats the wrong things he has a problem with having loose bowel movements that come on very quickly(sorry if TMI). Like if we are going home from a restaurant we sometimes have to stop and let him go to the bathroom. But I think it has alot to do with what he eats. He works with a women that has had hers taken out and she has the same problem.

I have had 3 surgeries and the Gall Bladder was the easiest of all. My surgery was in June of '03.

The one thing that the doctor didnt tell me was that I would have loose bowel movements afterward. It was triggered by the same foods that gave me the Gallbladder attacks.

The surgery was a piece of cake. They hook you up to the IV and wheel you into surgery. You are under completely and cant feel what they are doing. After the surgery you wake up and are very weak. It knocks you down to nothing. Most surgeries do that. You are then put on a liquid diet for a few days after that. I was put on paid medication too so I was out of it for a few days. After about the 3rd day you start getting your energy back. You will feel a ton better after having it out.

You should contact your doctor with any questions that you have before the surgery.

Hi all,

thanks for all your info, i am just so terrified i have only had a general twice (once for a broken arm and one for a cesearean) the broken arm didnt go so well and i had a breathing reaction while i was under, this was many years ago and the c-section went with no problems whatsoever. They are doing the keyhole surgery so i guess everything will be fine, what worries me the most is that i am not going to be with my son for 2 days (at least)

Thanks again for all the info and good luck to all

Pam

i can understand your worries especially if you had a bad reaction to the anasthetic before but rest assured everyone will be keeping a very close eye on your breathing throughout the op.
i found it very easy having the keyhole surgery, my auntie was given the old op many years ago and the scar is absolutley huge! so i had it easy.
i went in at 7am and was expected to be home by late afternoon, as id had lots of previous surgery my old scars had to be opened yet again so i had to stay in overnight, i was swollen for a few days but to get rid of that vile pain of the stones was wonderful, i find i cant eat particular things they go straight through me, eggs are a no no as i havent got the gallblladder to break down the cholestrol and fats anymore so i do have to watch what i eat but its a small price to pay for that horrible pain and constant vommiting i had all the time.
all the best let us know how you get on, heres looking forward to a pain free you its great!!

Hi

I am looking forward to having the op over with as the pain is almost every night reguardless of what i eat, i am taking anti spasmodics, anti inflammatory's and loads of pain killers and that is daily. I cant wait to have a pain free night. I am hoping it wont be as bad as a c-section.

Sugarlips i will let you know how it goes as soon as i get out.

Thanks for all the advice

Pam

Thumbs up

DH had his gallbladder out last year, and the only thing that he complained about after his surgery was that his shoulder hurt.... LOL. Alot of people experience shoulder pain after surgery due to the way they postion you on the table. Other than that he never complained a bit. So don't worry!!!!
