Hi there. I have not had that experience but I wanted to post and tell you that you are NOT alone. A lot of people do get worse acne with evening primrose oil. I've read that before.

I've stopped taking it now, but I think it may take a week or so to get out of my system! I'm seeing slight improvement in white heads after stopping it but had huge white head on upped lip area this morning
There is a very potent DHT inhibitor in EPO. Maybe, because it is working on suppressing the excess testosterone, there is a short rebound effect and then general improvement.
I found myself, that the more EPO I take, the less acne i have.
I am using 8 X 1300 mg Super EPO (NOW brand) which contains about 960mg of GLA which I believe is the DHT inhibitor.
What if you try it again and give it a good chance(maybe 3 months) to see what your long term results are.
Hey,
I started taking EPO about a week ago, about 2,500 mgs a day, I'm going to up the dose a little bit soon since there's no RDA on EPO anyway so I'm not worried about taking too much.....BUT so far it's made my skin really oily, it's like the primrose oil is leaking out of my face!! I'm continuing with it to see if my skin improves but so far I could be a lot happier with it....

I believe that different individuals respond differently to the evening primrose oil.
It can either help or aggravate acne based on different hormonal types.....
Oily skin is not necessarily bad. Even though p. acnes bacteria can breed in pores that are clogged up by oil and sebum, it's NOT the oil itself that causes acne.
Reducing oil can reduce acne because the little acne bacteria starve off that way, but you can have oily skin AND no acne.
When I tried Vitex, it made me oily like that....constantly glowing. In a way it was nice...my skin seemed dewy and moist and youthful.....and NO acne! I had much worse acne at times when my skin was relatively dry.
This is because oil is not the only factor. Clogged pores that are full of dead skin cells/sebum etc. mixed with oil is a bad mixture if you are acne-prone.
I have come to realize that oil is not the enemy. You may have good success with the EPO; I'd hang in there and see.
Of course, maybe not....everybody's response to it can be different.
I had to quit taking Vitex for a different reason but it was the loveliest my skin had ever been.....a little oily, but never breaking out, so it was just kind of fresh and soft and moisturized-like....you know? I would get just a LITTLE too much glow, but it was nothing that a quick blot wouldn't take care of.
If I had a choice, I'd always rather have shiny, clean, glowing skin than dry, oil-free red-spotted horrifying-looking skin!
Good luck to all,
X

The EPO is workin well now! My skin is NOT oily anymore, it's like my skin was rebelling against it for a week but then accepted it, so far I've had no great big boils like I usually get, although I will need to be on it longer to feel the difference. I'd never have thought of taking it without this forum so cheers girlies!

Mine got oilier for about a week after starting the EPR then settled back to it's normal oilyness. The past two weeks I've been using a clay/tomato mask every morning and it's really helping control the oil through the day. I'm normally extremely oily. Started vitex today to see if I can get the last two stubborn places finally undercontrol.
