Default Has anyone heard of Januvia?

Metformin makes me really anxious so my doc wants me to try Januvia. I am not diabetic, just higher than normal insulin levels. Apparently Januvia has only been on the market about 3 months (at least in Canada). I am leery about trying something so new. Just wondering if it's been out longer in other countries or if anyone here has tried it and if so, how it went.

Many thanks.

I don't take it, but my husband does for his type 2 diabetes. He's been on it for about 3 months or so.

His doctor also perscribed Metformin and Byetta as well. He started with Met, then added the Byetta and that still wasn't enough so they added the Januvia. He is REALLY bad at remembering to take the Byetta (it's a shot twice a day) and his sugar was dropping WAY too low with all of these meds so he stopped taking it recently. He's going to the doctor next week to see if his doctor agrees with this and to get bloodwork done to see how these meds are working.

He hasn't mentioned any side effects from it and I think it's working because it is clearly helping his levels drop. I don't know exactly when it came out in the United States, but I haven't heard much about it.

Hopefully a cyster has tried it for PCOS and can give you better insight.
Good luck!

I am on "Janumet", which is a combined pill with Januvia and metformin. Unfortunately, I have been suffering from most of the standard metformin side effects, but don't know if Januvia could also be the culprit.

I do have a good friend who could not tolerate the metformin at all, but was able to take Januvia without any issues.

Good luck!

I just heard of Januvia on the TV and I went to my OBGYN told her the Metformin was intolerable and asked about Januvia...she said that is not used to treat PCOS.

Rosiglitazone and that ticks me off because the side effects are weight gain and a bunch of other thigns and I need to LOSE weight!
I'm switching doctors.

Ugg - this reminds me of avandia. Now it causes heart problems. I went back on metformin that made me so sick until I finally figured out that at night after 3 meals I could tolerate 1,000 mg. I need to take twice that really. I am scared of new medication - I would be weary...

I take metformin ER 2000mg and Januvia 100mg
I'm IR and bordering on diabetic

I started taking this combo in May

I havent had any s/e other than the regular met ones when I eat something I shouldnt

it's kept my levels even and consistant
my bloodwork looks better and better every time

it's a class B drug so I plan to take it until I conceive then stop

I'm also consistantly dropping weight so that makes me happy

My husband was just diagnosed with Type II diabetes about 2 weeks ago and that is what his doctor prescribed because he also has a fatty liver. He hasn't complained of any symptoms, but I have noticed that he is really tired all of the time. But I still don't know much about it.

Sorry I can't be of any more assistance.
