Isn't this the generic of Mircette? I was on this with a previous doctor who just tried to regulate my period, before I was dx'd with PCOS. It didn't regulate it and I didn't experience any weight loss with it. My current dr. has me on Yasmin. I saw a little weightloss with that and a combo of met, but nothing drastic.

If it is like Mircette... I was on Alesse which is similar in that it it low estrogen. Generlly it seems lower estrogen pills don't have the pack-on-the-pounds effect of higher estrogen pills. In my case, I was able to lose weight taking Alesse and Glucophage. Low dose pills don't so much allow you to lose weight as they don't make you hold on to weight... the gluc is what helped with weight loss. Alesse also had no negative mood effects, which is my usual problem with BCPs... it also really helped with my hair issues, but loss and excess. Unfortunately I had a lot of breakthrough bleeding that didn't stop even after 3 months of the pill so I gave up on Alesse.

A lower dose pill is worth a shot though. not everyonbe has the break through bleeding problem.

Kariva is generic Mircette. I've been taking it for two years. I wouldn't say I lost weight on it but I've never had any bad side effects while on it. It regulated me and my periods were light. It was a really great BCP in my opinion. The only thing that bothered me was coming off it....I had a major hair loss shed which hasn't really recovered. I'm off the pill now just because I want to see if my body can regulate its own period. And I'm just praying that I don't have the major hair loss shed I had the first time I came off of it.

Hair loss after stopping the pill is quite common. Being on the pill is kind of like being pregnant, hormonally... and most if not all women experience massive shedding post-partum with the sudden drop/shift in hormones. Same thing can happen when you quit the pill.

It's happened to me before.
