I am new to this board, and I am currently being tested for PCOS. My gynecologist recently ran some blood tests on me and sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. I just got the results of these tests.
My doctor told me that all of my hormone levels are normal except for my thyroid hormone, T3. This hormone is slightly elevated. I find this confusing because I am 140 pounds overweight. I have never heard of an obese person having an overactive thyroid.
I am surprised that the rest of my hormone levels are supposedly normal. I have noticed slight facial hair growth lately in addition to the other symptoms of PCOS I have had for years (acne, obesity, and irregular (almost nonexistent) periods).
As for the ultrasound, my doctor told me that both of my ovaries are slightly enlarged and that it is very possible that I have polycystic ovaries.
I realize that this is simply a message board and not a place for a person to get diagnosed with PCOS. I am just wondering if anyone here has had similar test results and has later been diagnosed with PCOS. I am still not sure if I have PCOS. I will be going to an endocrinologist soon for further testing and evaluation.
Welcome to SC! I don't really have an answer for you but I wanted to welcome you to the board. Your best bet is with the endocrinologist. Also, there are a few women here who have both weight issues and overactive thyroid. Check out the "Do You Have This Problem" forum and ask there, I am sure you will get some answers. If you need anything, please ask. This board is full of information and the women are all knowledgeable and very supportive.

Yes that happened to me too. Thyroid tests are tricky ... even though they say one thing it does not mean you body is using your thyroid correctly. My body produces too much T3 but does not use it, this is call Wilson's Temp Syndrome (not to be confused with the copper deficency). In order to find out if your body is using your T3 you need to take you temps three to four times a day and average them. If the fall one degree under, 97.6 then you have WTS and should be given some T3. What my doctor gave me was a mixture of bother T4 & T3, Thyolar. I have seen a significate difference! Let me know if you have any other questions!

I would like to thank everyone who responded to this post of mine. I really appreciate the support! :-) It is nice for one to know that she is not alone with such questions and issues. :-)
I will be visiting an endocrinologist next month. Hopefully this doctor will be able to find a suitable solution for my situation with my hormones and ovaries. :-)
I can also tell you that I was told that all my hormone levels were normal by my gyne. When the endo looked at the same tests she said PCOS. It has to do with the ratio of hormones as well not just the individual numbers.
Welcome aboard and I hope you get your answers soon.

I just got my tests results and they were all normal too (even my thyroid). I am so confused, I was certain I had PCOS (as was my doctor). Now, I'm not sure what to do or think. I still have weight problems (with a large recent weight gain), hirsutism, irregular periods, and infertility/miscarriages. I was hoping for an answer and I don't have any. I hope you get some answers from your endocrinologist. I'm not sure whether we should be happy that everything looks good or sad that we don't have any more answers at this point.
Best wishes!
