Default Has anyone seen a hormone specialist?

Hi ya

I was at the docs this morning and after trying Diannette and Vaniqa for the excess hair I took along some facts from this site and asked if I could try spiro or some other kind of medication as Dianette and Vaniqa haven't made any difference.

The doctor I had today was very helpful for once and said that she wouldn't tend to prescribe something like this if I haven't first seen a specialist to get to the bottom of the problem. So she took blood samples and hopefully soon I will have an appointment at the hospital.

Did everyone else get the medication from doctors or did you too see a hormone specialist. If so can anyone tell me what they will do?

Thanks in advance

My GP prescribed Spiro, which I found didn't really help. After continuing problems my GP did a blood test which indicated possible PCOS so she referred me to an Endo who then prescribed Flutamide. I have found this has made a huge difference. It hasn't eradicated excess hair completely by any means and it tends to grow faster at some times of the month than others but is much easier to manage and I can live with it.

I flew to another state to see a "hormone specialist". That was one of the biggest wastes of money (and time) ever. I was perscribed birth control pills, spiro, and sent on my way. Finally, I found an M.D. who specializes in endocrine disorders. So far, so good...

I haven't seen an endocrinologist yet but I may set up a consultation just to go over what my PCP is already doing. Currently she's put me on Aldactone (spiro) and I'm going to see how she responds to some of my other concerns. But I feel like I would be in safer hands if I see a specialist.
