Question Has anyone tried...

Has anyone tried any of the generic antidepressants on Target's $4 list?

AMITRIPTYLINE
CITALOPRAM
DOXEPIN HCL
FLUOXETINE
NORTRIPTYLINE
PAROXETINE
TRAZODONE

That is what they offer in various dosage. If you have any experience with them please help me out. I was on Wellbutrin XL (generic) and it worked pretty well. I was doing a lot better on it then I am now that I am not. I run out of insurance very soon so these are my only choices. Thanks ahead of time.

Hi Kelly,

Out of the AD's on your list, I have tried nortriptyline, but that was back in the 1980's. I haven't specifically used any of the Target's generics, but I can share with you my experience with the AD I mentioned above.

From what I remember (it was a long time ago and I'm old now), I didn't have a whole lot of side-effects from nortriptyline, except for a general feeling of fuzzy-headedness, forgetfulness, dry mouth, and fatigue. The good thing about this AD was that I didn't gain weight on it. However, I was on it only for a short time (6 months) as my depression improved considerably due to some life changes, so my doctor decided to wean me off of it.

I've also tried fluoxetine (generic for prozac) for a brief time a few years ago. I didn't like it, as I experienced a LOT more side-effects and gained a considerable amount of weight while on it. Needless to say, I didn't use it for very long for that reason.

I'm now taking Wellbutrin XL (like you are) and am very happy with it. However, if Wellbutrin is not going to be an option for you anymore, you may want to consult with your doctor to see which of the generic ADs on the Target list will be the best replacement for it.

Hope this has been a little helpful.
